Canada Is Finally Waking Up. These Stocks Could Soar
In the Money with Amber Kanwar
October 15, 2026
Canada is on the cusp of what could be a generational investment opportunity. After years of underinvestment, billions of dollars are flowing toward infrastructure, defence, energy and data centres—and some of the biggest beneficiaries may still be overlooked by investors.

I'm as excited as I've been a year ago. There is so much happening. This is a generational opportunity.
Amber Kanwar (0:09)
Andrey Omelchak is outperforming, and he's doing it by betting on Canada.
Andrey Omelchak (0:13)
It was very clear to me, going back about a year ago, that there's a high probability of a sea change happening.
Amber Kanwar (0:19)
Are you willing to bet on a reversal in that policy with your dollars? Is this a direct beneficiary from Build Canada?
Andrey Omelchak (0:27)
I believe they're going to beat the estimates by a lot next year.
Amber Kanwar (0:29)
He reveals his biggest bet yet.
Andrey Omelchak (0:31)
I'm super excited about it. We have been investors in the company for some time, and recently we increased it to be making it really one of our biggest bets.

I'm excited to announce Guardian Capital LP as one of our newest sponsors. Today, many investors choose to follow the crowd by chasing returns rather than anticipating them. The mutual fund and ETF strategies offered by Guardian Capital LP don't seek to follow trends, but find long-term opportunities. Standing apart from the crowd is not always easy, but for more than six decades, Guardian Capital has helped investors navigate changing markets through independent thinking, active management, and disciplined risk oversight. Guardian Capital LP, following conviction, not the crap. Contact your advisor today and ask about Guardian Capital's funds and ETFs, and visit their website for more information at guardiancapital.com.

Hey, everyone. Welcome to a brand new episode of In the Money with Amber Kanwar. Today, we've got Andrey Omelchak of LionGuard Capital joining us. He actually joined the podcast for the first time in March. His picks did really well. His fund is outperforming not only the TSX, but also the Nasdaq. But he's doing it without direct commodity exposure and without direct AI exposure. How is he doing it, you ask? By betting on Canada. He's looking at the sea change in this country and saying, it's an investable event, one that he calls a generational opportunity. So let's get into it.
Andrey Omelchak, thank you so much for joining us on the podcast.
Andrey Omelchak (2:39)
Great to be here, Amber. Thank you for the invitation.
Amber Kanwar (2:41)
You're joining us for a second time. Your picks did extraordinarily well, so I'm excited to have you back. This time we're serious. You're wearing a tie today.
Andrey Omelchak (2:50)
You got it.
Amber Kanwar (2:50)
I'm in a formal shirt and blazer if you're not watching on YouTube. So if this feels like a serious podcast, it's because we dress for the occasion.
Andrey Omelchak (2:58)
Well, I think the occasion is right. We have to be serious as a country and we can elaborate on that during the podcast.
Amber Kanwar (3:04)
Absolutely. And I think that's actually very key to the kind of investor that you are today. Because I want to jump right into your performance. It's been amazing. You've outperformed the TSX. You've outperformed the Nasdaq, which is hard to do when you don't own any Nasdaq stocks. You don't own a lot of mining metals. You own a lot of what's not in the indexes. Is that a fair characterization?
Andrey Omelchak (3:34)
That's a very fair characterization, Amber. I purposely like to select industries and subsectors in unique situations which don't make a bet on overall market direction. That's by design, absolutely.
Amber Kanwar (3:46)
So that's working out for you this year. There is a tilt, though. There are still themes that you want to pick up on. So at a high level, what gets you excited in the portfolio? And you know, you do traffic in smaller and mid-cap names, but what gets you excited? What moves you from looking at an idea to an investing in an idea?
Andrey Omelchak (4:09)
Yeah, sure. So at a higher level, I like to select a theme, an investment theme, which has a lot of likes, so to speak, which will continue for years to come with a very high probability. So it's not something that might work, might not work 50-50. The odds have to be hugely in the favor for me to get interested in that theme. So, about a year ago, I got quite excited about Build Canada, and a lot of investors have talked about it since.
