What's that T-shirt you're wearing? I can't quite see it from here. Oh, can you read it? RCA Victor. Yeah.
PL12030. And then there's some letters underneath that, which I can't read. What are the letters underneath the number? LOW.
Paul Greengrass (0:20)
Explain to yourself.
Simon Mayo (0:22)
It's the label listing for Bowie's low.
Oh, right. Okay. So it's a T-shirt that is designed specifically for fools like me to say, what's that? And then you can then prove how cool you are by saying, I haven't got a David Bowie low T-shirt with the cover of the album, because that would be like for plebs. I'm hardcore and cooler than you. Yes. It is one of a collection of what are known as Mark's annoying T-shirts. So like the ones which have got the names of band members on them. And somebody has to go, sorry, what's that? It's the Gang of Four, actually. It's a condescending T-shirt. It is. I have an entire wardrobe of condescending T-shirts. It's like the one which says Knox Oil and Gas. I have another one which says Happer Institute, Sea and Sky.
It's like the Weyland-Yutani thing. It's, if you know, you know. And I know it's absolutely an entire collection of what are now generally referred to as Mark's annoying T-shirts. Sneary T-shirts.
Paul Greengrass (1:23)
You could run a shop.
Simon Mayo (1:24)
It could be part of the merch sign.
If you fancy one of Mark's sneery T-shirts, this is where you can go to get them. You see mine is a coffee shop in Florence, which is just, it's just a sweatshirt. Well, considering what we are doing in Take Two, why am I wearing this sneery T-shirt? Because you're wanting to sneer? No, considering what we're doing in Take Two. What are we doing? Oh, what, Man Who Fell to Earth? Well done. What's the connection, other than just Bowie, what's the connection between Low and The Man Who Fell to Earth? Why don't you answer your own question? Because I'm not going to do that because I'm asking you, Dr Pop. I'm not going to answer that question. All right, well, I'll answer it when we get round to talking about The Man Who Fell to Earth. Right. So, I'm already being condescended in Take Two. Just because you've introduced what you're doing on the show and talked about your T-shirt. Yes, that's right. You know, I've never understood it, but lots of people think I come across as smug. I can't.
Where did they come from? So, the overflow car park of love.
Toby Starbuck says, A satellite car park is a secondary overflow or remote parking lot located near a main facility such as a hospital, event grounds or transport hub designed to handle excess vehicle demand. Satellite of Love was a hit by Lou Reed. This is how Mark's brain works.
Oh.
So, I'm thinking of Love because I'm thinking of an overflow car park as a satellite car park. I don't know. But also, Chris in Greater Manchester, watcha chaps, could the song Mark hears when Simon says overflow car park of love be the Edwin Collins song, Magic Piper of Love from Austin Powers. It's certainly what I hear. That's possible. But why would I hear that? I think making the jump from overflow to satellite is a little bit, shows a lot of, I mean, I think Toby Starbuck clearly is in the car park industry. He is. Because he knows far too much about them. I'm not, but Satellite of Love would be one place to go, but I'm not sure I'd have got there from overflow. I just, I honestly don't know why. I mean, it's not that I'm being super clever. I'm being super dumb. I don't know why it is that whenever you say overflow carpark, my brain goes, of love. And I mean, that, yeah, the satellite thing sounds like a leap, doesn't it? Yeah, I think it's a dogging thing. A what? Yeah.
Do you know what that is? Yeah, it's more of a lead by, but it can be in a carpark. So just in case. Oh, really? Yeah. Generally, in your experience, it's generally love. What's love got to do with it? Not much in this case. There was, there was a film a few years ago, not a very good film, if you remember, which I reviewed called Dogging a Love Story.
I probably switched off when you said the title, I would think. Does anyone talk about that film anymore? I don't think they do. No, no, no. Stephen Venn in Inland British Columbia, Canada. First time emailer, longtime listener in Them Their Colonies. Listening to Mark mention why he always wants to add of love to the end of the Overflow Car Park feature made me, it's not really a feature, but still, thank you, Stephen.
