And Go Get'Em we shall. Welcome to the Go Get'Em Live from Yankee Stadium. As the Yankees, Cam Schlittler, Ben Rice, and the New York Yankees take down the Boston Red Sox in game one in a while, they start nine to nothing. And it was that close. It felt close for most of the game. The Yankees offense does nothing but the story. Ben Rice, two home runs, the Grand Slam that breaks it open hits before that to get them going as well.

Wells gets them going, but the story of the game is what we expected the story of the game to be. Cam Schlittler is an absolute beast. With 104 pitches through six, he comes back out for the seventh and gets them one out in the seventh, Blackburn comes in, gets the double play, and from that moment on, the game was lopsided, and the New York Yankees had the game. They needed to win. They got it.

This was a must win. The second they decided to start Cam, and he's pitching like this, they could not afford to lose this game. They dominated the game. He dominated the game. They had no chance against them. There's maybe two hard hit balls the entire game from Boston, and the Yankees pitch their ass off for a shutout in game one, and the offense explodes late, which saves Bednar, saves every other reliever you want to use over the next two days. It's pretty, the only problem is, the only negative is they should have started free. They scored nine runs. But besides that, I'm just kidding. But besides that, this was about as well-rounded, well-played. Lombard has a little bit of a gaffe on the bases and runs himself into a double play. But outside of that, the Yankees played a clean, crisp game. Cam Schlittler is an absolute beast. We'll get into more of that as we go along. Ben Rice, the two Boston boys, shut them down and hit two massive home runs. And you couldn't have asked for more to get this series started. We welcome in now to join us for a very special Go Get'Em podcast, Shaun Marash.

Shaun, how you feeling?

Shaun Morash (2:19)

How am I feeling? I'm feeling great. C-Mac, I've been with you in Yankee Stadium with you tugging on your, you know, strings of your hood and your sweatshirt in tense moments. The fact that this game just breaks wide open late and it's kind of a laugh on the way out. But as you just highlighted, man, Cam Schlittler to do this in back to back post seasons, what can you say, man?

Chris McMonigle (2:37)

I mean, and tonight, again, I didn't, you know, watching it live is a little different than watching it on TV.

But to me, and me and Ryan was sitting together, his curve ball tonight was incredible. He had it both to get ahead for strikes. And then he had it down out of the zone to get swing and miss. He was throwing it back to back to make sure that the hitters were off the fastball. Like tonight, as dominant as he always is, and the fastball is obviously the key to his game, just from sitting here and I didn't have the feel of it watching the break from television. But the curve ball was such an important fact for him in this game, for him to go to it in that moment and throw it for strikes, throw it behind in the count to get back into counts. Like if he's going to pitch like that, if he's going to have a curve ball where he can get it over and throw it down in the zone for swinging misses, throw it 2-0-3-1 to get back into counts, like that's another level of Cam Schlittler.

Shaun Morash (3:34)

It is and C-Mac, just from the TV perspective, he starts the game with back to back touching 101 miles an hour, which kind of wowed everybody. And that almost set the tone those first two pitches. But they made a point, I thought Girardi and Marloni were actually great together on this game of talking about it. Cam Schlittler kept going to the pitchcom himself, almost like in every curveball moment, just dialing it up himself to Wells, not even letting Wells call that. And it just must have been something he felt in complete rhythm.

I also thought in the fifth inning, it felt like, and I don't know how your feel was in the stadium, at least in the TV broadcast, it felt like Cam was running out of gas there. Girardi had mentioned that he kind of was getting ahead of himself with his hips over his legs. He was kind of directing everything to third base. And it almost looked like mechanically he was going to fall apart. So when he came out and got through the easy sixth, I think we all at home were almost stunned he came back out for the seventh. I mean to go over the 107 pitches, which was his career high, which he matched last year in game one. I love that for a couple of reasons. First of all, just believing in your bulldog. And maybe also the lack of belief in the depth of the pen and how much you're going to need to get him in October. It was very 2009-esque. I know they talked about this was the most pitches thrown in a playoff game since CC in 2012 But you know how that was C-Mac with the three aces in 2009 Just kind of like, we're gonna ride you, ride you, ride you. That almost might be a better recipe for the Yankees. Not that you could expect this from Cam every single start, but it's certainly a good way to approach this right away for Boonee.
