Data Over Dogma
May 25, 2026

You know, there's something just nice about buying from an independent company that focuses on integrity and hard work. And that's what I feel like I get with Brooklyn Bedding. I know that my Sedona Elite mattress that I got from Brooklyn Bedding, it was made in the USA.
High quality materials, real attention to detail. That's the kind of thing that you just, you don't get a lot of anymore, you know? This is an American story where the founder didn't just come from some big corporate background. He just studied mattresses and built his business from the ground up, and you know, built a factory in Arizona. And that's what you get when you have a Brooklyn Bedding mattress.
Dan McClellan (0:51)
Yeah, my wife and I, we sleep on a plank firm Lux from Brooklyn Bedding. We got the California King. We like that a little extra space. She thinks I'm trying to get away from her. I am just, I need to spread out when I sleep. And also, I'm a hot sleeper. I run hot naturally, but Brooklyn Bedding gave me the Glaciotex covers as well. They use these copper-infused foams and temperature-regulating materials to help me stay cool and comfortable all night long. And you know, Brooklyn Bedding knows sleep isn't one size fits all. That's why they offer mattresses for every body, every sleep style, even hard-to-find sizes. We got the firmest mattress we could find, and it is the firmest mattress that either of us have ever slept on. And they also offer a 120-night comfort trial. If you try out Brooklyn Bedding, you will love their mattress, or they'll help you return it and swap it hassle-free. And you don't have to take my word for it. They have won awards from CNET and Wirecutter for their mattresses. They are very, very good at what they do.

Dan Beecher (2:52)
What do you think Lewis' response would be to the people who have taken him as their champion?
Leslie Baynes (2:58)
Oh my gosh.
Dan Beecher (2:59)
Because it doesn't seem like he would be happy about who it is that are most interested in grabbing him and using him.
Leslie Baynes (3:09)
He would despise it.
Dan McClellan (3:19)
Hey, everybody, I'm Dan McClellan.
Dan Beecher (3:21)
And I'm Dan Beecher.
Dan McClellan (3:22)
And this is Data Over Dogma, where we increase public access to the academic study of the Bible and religion, and we combat the spread of misinformation about the same. How are things today, Dan?
Dan Beecher (3:34)
Good, things are good.
We're out here combating misinformation, but this time, maybe it's not about the Bible. Maybe the misinformation will be combating, or maybe it is, actually, but it's from a very specific source. And to help us do it, we've brought a guest on. Why don't you, Dan, introduce our guest?
Dan McClellan (3:54)
This is Leslie Baynes. She is Professor of New Testament and Second Temple Judaism at Missouri State University, and I'm looking at the bio here. She has also served as scholar-in-residence at the Kilns, which is Lewis' home outside of Oxford, and as an Inklings Project Fellow, which reminds me of the days I used to spend at the Bird and Baby, where the eagle and child, the pub off, I think it's on Banbury, with the little plaque above one of the tables that mentions the Inklings used to hang out there until, if I recall the lore correctly, they got annoyed with how they were trying to commercialize their patronage and went across the street to the lamb and flag.
Leslie Baynes (4:44)
I think that's right. Yeah, they would meet various places, but the Bird and Baby, of course, is the big one.
Dan McClellan (4:51)
Yeah.
Leslie Baynes (4:51)
It shut down during COVID.
Dan McClellan (4:52)
It shut down, yes. I was there a couple years ago, and yeah, I was like, it's not even there anymore. I went over to the lamb and flag.
