All right.
Chris McMonigle (0:00)
We didn't need the whole highlight, Pete.
Craig Carton (0:02)
By the way, the New York Yankees have never gone to a World Series in the Dave Simms era.
Chris McMonigle (0:09)
And that was the Corona Lime Time highlight of the night, presented by Corona, the official cerveza of Major League Baseball.
Craig Carton (0:14)
You're looking for a bad luck charm, I guess Simms is it.
Chris McMonigle (0:16)
No, unfortunately it goes way back past him.
Craig Carton (0:19)
Yeah, but Susan's done World Series. Sure. Yeah, Dave hasn't.
Chris McMonigle (0:24)
No.
Craig Carton (0:24)
Ricky Ricardo's done World Series. Dave hasn't, maybe it's time for change.
Chris McMonigle (0:29)
Come on.
Craig Carton (0:30)
I'm just kidding.
Chris McMonigle (0:31)
I know.
Craig Carton (0:31)
You know I love Dave Simms. I got him the job.
Chris McMonigle (0:34)
I'm sure you did.
Craig Carton (0:34)
I did. He'll tell you the same story.
Chris McMonigle (0:37)
I hear you.
Craig Carton (0:37)
Yeah. What happened to everyone saying, I think the Yankees are going to fight back tonight, extend the series to game four. See you guys at Yankee Stadium tomorrow.
Chris McMonigle (0:45)
I mean, that's really it. And what happened to Michael Dell's wife?
Craig Carton (0:48)
Oh my Lord. Another story for another day.
Chris McMonigle (0:50)
Sorry. But I don't know.
Craig Carton (0:53)
It looks like one of them reptilians that I saw in the Joe Rogan show yesterday. Yeah. Reptilians.
Chris McMonigle (0:58)
Yeah.
Craig Carton (0:59)
Yeah. Wow.
Chris McMonigle (1:00)
You just said it. They're not mentally tough enough.
Craig Carton (1:03)
Who, the Dells?
Chris McMonigle (1:04)
Yeah. You would think the Dells would be more mentally tough, where they wouldn't need such surgery.
Craig Carton (1:08)
The Yankees are soft. You're right. They're mentally soft.
Chris McMonigle (1:11)
They're mentally soft.
Craig Carton (1:12)
Although they did fight back a couple of times, tied the game. Here's the problem with it. Every single time they tied the game, and you felt like, all right, tie game, we're going to be fine.
The next inning, they gave the lead back up.
Chris McMonigle (1:26)
No, I know. There was never a point where you were like, we got to talk about Max Fried eventually.
Craig Carton (1:29)
We kind of settled in. We got a tie game in the fourth, to the fifth, to the sixth. Good job, getting a base hit. Volpe, of course, coming up big last night. Give the kid credit. As soon as we tied it, they took the lead right back. For all the talk about Max Fried and him being the answer to losing Soto, and the highest paid lefty in the history of the game, and he took ownership of it, so it is what it is.
You cannot give up that home run.
Chris McMonigle (1:55)
You can't.
Craig Carton (1:56)
I mean, a 72-mile-per-hour hanging slider? Like no joke, I think you and I might have hit that ball out.
Chris McMonigle (2:05)
Look, he's one out away from having the inning and the outing, rather, that you wanted. Six innings, two runs. You'll live with that.
Craig Carton (2:13)
Yes.
Chris McMonigle (2:13)
I'll live with six. That's good enough.
Craig Carton (2:15)
Do they get all their runs on two outs? All of their runs are on two outs.
Chris McMonigle (2:20)
The RBI single, the solo homerun and the two run homerun. And by the way, that's how Tampa beat them too, hitting homeruns, not playing Tampa Bay baseball.
Craig Carton (2:26)
One was the short porch, the other one was the gym.
Chris McMonigle (2:28)
I know that's the only one that's hit, and it's hit in one ballpark, but to me, I know, and again, I'm not trying to diminish or say you're wrong if you're going to tell me about they need to play for more contact, developing the wrong kind of hitters.
I get it. All of it has its validity to it. I hear you, but to me, it's just simply, where do they find, how do you find those tough, gritty players that those 19-18s had?
Craig Carton (2:54)
The Jose Alvarado of the basketball world.
Chris McMonigle (2:56)
Correct.
Craig Carton (2:56)
That kind of guy.
Chris McMonigle (2:57)
How do you find the guy? How do you find the Scott Brochises? How do you find the Luis Sohos? How do you find the guys that helped carry those championship teams? I see one other question. How do you find them?
Craig Carton (3:07)
You know, all the talk about the short porch, the short porch, all the Yankees benefit.
