BY THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH
The Carpool with Kelly and Lizz
October 2, 2026
Lizz's world is on fire with no childcare this week, but the pod must go on. Good thing there is the live action "Aladdin" movie to keep the kids entertained. According the Kelly and Lizz, those Disney live action movies are underrated.

Welcome to the Carpool Podcast with Kelly.
Kelly Stumpe (0:05)
It's like I just think like in the fight against AI, like hosting a hot dog party feels like, at least I'm trying to do something to keep the human connection and experience and hot dogs at the forefront.
Elizabeth Suntrup (0:16)
And Lizz. I, you know what? It's moments like this, like I love to see a backpedal.
It just feels like, in a world where justice is rarely served, it does feel like the justice is being served. And Mom Time All starts now.
Kelly Stumpe (0:32)
Welcome back to The Carpool Podcast with Kelly and Lizz. And you guys, we are getting this episode out by, what is it called? The skin of our teeth?
Elizabeth Suntrup (0:41)
The skin of our teeth doesn't seem, that doesn't seem to make sense. But I do think that's what it is.
Kelly Stumpe (0:49)
The skin of our teeth? The skin of your teeth meaning?
To barely succeed at something, but why? By the skin of our teeth?
Elizabeth Suntrup (1:02)
It comes from the Bible, specifically the Book of Job. The verse reads, my bone cleaveth to the skin into my flesh and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
Kelly Stumpe (1:17)
That doesn't really give me any clarity.
Elizabeth Suntrup (1:20)
The original Hebrew phase suggests escaping with nothing left at all, as if the only thing to survive the ruin is the invisible covering of one's teeth.
Kelly Stumpe (1:31)
Well, that would describe what we're doing. We're getting this episode out by the skin of our teeth.
I mean, I'm fine. Elizabeth's world is on fire.
Elizabeth Suntrup (1:41)
Yeah, my world is on fire. It's fine though. The kids are watching a movie. Long story short, lost my child care for this week, which is fine. But it does make things like podcasting difficult to do.
But it's fine. Elise is asleep and Sloan and James are watching a movie, so it's great.
Kelly Stumpe (2:01)
What are they watching?
Elizabeth Suntrup (2:02)
Aladdin live action.
Kelly Stumpe (2:05)
Oh, I'm interested that that entertains them.
Elizabeth Suntrup (2:08)
Well, I am making a low-stem.
When I want to do low-stem, I do not cartoons, I do live action. Frankly, I wanted to watch it, but then it became a good opportunity to record a podcast.
Kelly Stumpe (2:23)
Have you not seen Aladdin live action?
Elizabeth Suntrup (2:25)
No, I have, but it's just been a while, and I've seen Aladdin.
Kelly Stumpe (2:28)
It's so good. No, it's like so good.
Elizabeth Suntrup (2:30)
I've seen the cartoon a lot and I've read the book a lot. So now I'm like, oh, I want to revisit the live action.
Best live action Disney remake, what do you think?
Kelly Stumpe (2:46)
Probably Aladdin. I mean, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Ariel, I think they were all very good. I feel like everyone knows that Snow White was a dumpster fire.
Elizabeth Suntrup (2:56)
Never saw it.
Kelly Stumpe (2:57)
And I can't think of another one that's been Cinderella. OK, it's not a great story, Cinderella. Sorry. Like, it's kind of hard to judge that one up more.
Elizabeth Suntrup (3:05)
Which ones have been live action?
Kelly Stumpe (3:07)
What I would rather them do.
Elizabeth Suntrup (3:09)
Oh, wait, wait, wait. Wasn't Moana not good?
Kelly Stumpe (3:11)
Oh, I didn't even bother to see it.
Elizabeth Suntrup (3:12)
I didn't see it, but I heard it wasn't good. Oh, Lion King was good, and Jungle Book was good. Actually, maybe people are too harsh on these.
Kelly Stumpe (3:25)
Well, here's what I want.
This is like a hot take of mine. I don't want live action as much as I will take a live action. But I would like, let's say, like Beauty and the Beast redone animated.
Elizabeth Suntrup (3:43)
Like more of like a Pixar.
Kelly Stumpe (3:47)
Yeah, like I want to see Beauty and the Beast Pixar.
Elizabeth Suntrup (3:50)
Here's the thing with the live actions that bothers me is when they change their outfits too much. I think that's what a lot of people have problems with. Ariel, she has so many iconic animated outfits, and they just ruined them all.
I think people said the same thing about Beauty and the Beast. Her dress was too yellow, and it wasn't this gorgeous gold ball gown. You would think that that would be the easiest part of creating a live action is just taking the exact iconic clothes that we all know and love. I'm just watching Aladdin. Maybe Aladdin could be a little bit less sexy-wexy. I do understand that one a little bit more.
