Bo Nix probably will not play in Friday night's preseason finale, Sean Payton announced after practice on Wednesday. And when he says probably will not play, I take that as he will definitely not play. I think we are done seeing number 10 in the preseason. And look, I saw everything I need to see. Six passes or six completions on nine passes, 76 yards, a touchdown and 129.9 pass rating. That does it for me, plus a 35-yard completion to Jalen Waddle. Bo Nix looks good to go. Save him for Kansas City, week one, Monday night football. Let's bow.
And on top of that, Sean Payton did not want to comment on any other player status for Friday's game. He gave us bow, but that was it for that. I would expect to see only a handful of starters play in the game as well. The coaching staff is going to meet tonight on Wednesday night to discuss who will play and who will not play in that preseason finale. And no decision has been made on the team's backup quarterback. It's expected that Jarrett Stidham is going to get the start on Friday night, and Sam Ehlinger will play a lot. So it seems like that is still up for grabs. And then Sean Payton did say that if there's eight roster questions heading into this weekend, keeping three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster would be one of those eight questions that the Broncos have. So backup quarterback spot may be still up for grabs along with if they're going to keep three quarterbacks on the roster. Let's get to a roster move that the Broncos did make today. Taylor Rapp gone, but not for long. The Broncos released the veteran safety Taylor Rapp on Wednesday. However it wasn't fully the Broncos' choice. Rapp quote, needed some time at home, according to Sean Payton. And then Payton indicated that quote, will be back sooner than later with the Broncos. So just a short stint away for Taylor Rapp before he rejoins the Broncos is what everything indicates. And here's what Sean Payton also said, quote, here's what we know, we've played against him, he's smart, which is a great trait to have as a safety, a great tackler, he can play down over the slot, he's got versatility, this came up and it was something he needed to address unquote. So Taylor Rapp going to be back with the Broncos.
Broncos made a couple of other roster moves as well. Heading into Friday's preseason finale, George Payton and Sean Payton were making moves. They signed outside linebacker Ron Stone Jr. defensive tackle, Israel Antwine and offensive tackle Foster Sorrell. The team released Taylor Rapp as we talked about and wide receiver Kyrie Duplicia. So those are the moves that the Broncos have made. A couple of those guys, Sean Payton actually coached their dads and so knows their dads pretty well as well. In that second preseason game, Denver's first team defense gave up the touchdown on the first drive. It did not go as planned. The Green Bay Packers led by Jordan Love drove down the field against the Broncos starting defense for a 12-place 66-yard touchdown drive. Speaking for the first time since that game, Vance Joseph called out the defense. Joseph said Denver's defense was a little bit lazy and unengaged. Joseph even noticed this in the pregame warmups. However, since it was just a preseason game, Vance didn't want to address it. He wanted to see how the team responded. And they responded by allowing a touchdown drive on the first possession. Now Vance knows how to attack that if he sees that in warmups heading into the regular season as well. Speaking of attacking, attacking Denver's defense is something that Vance also noticed and brought up.
