DNVR Denver Broncos Podcast
September 16, 2026
The Denver Broncos are looking to bounce back after a disappointing 31-10 loss to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. What went wrong for Bo Nix and Sean Payton’s offense? How much of Denver’s Week 1 performance should be a real concern moving forward?

We're on to Jacksonville in just a second. We are looking at the number of ways the Broncos need to bounce back this Sunday, not only from their loss against the Chiefs, but also to their loss to the Jags last year. Lot of challenges, but a lot of opportunities. Let's talk about all of that on the DNVR Broncos Podcast. Zac Stevens joined by Henry Chisholm. We got you here behind the camera. Shout out to everyone that is tuning in on this wonderful Wednesday. Shout out to our guy, Brian Baldinger, Baldy, who will be joining us in just a couple of minutes. We'll see how surprised he was at what went down on Monday night. And then how the Broncos turn the page quickly. Henry, how are you doing?
Henry Chisholm (0:43)
It's a weird night. No football last night for the first time. Because what we had Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, right? Wednesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. The first time in a week that we hadn't had football. So Rockies won, which was fun. There we go. Had no idea that was happening.
That just doesn't feel the same once football starts.
Zac Stevens (1:01)
Yeah. No, it really doesn't. And Volk TS in the Toyota chat, as we are live from the Xfinity studio, saying I'm still waking up in a bad mood. Yeah.
I don't blame you. I mean, that wasn't just a loss. It was a beat down. And actually, Henry, yesterday, I was planning on joining you guys on the show. Sean Payton was supposed to talk to the media five minutes into the show. So I stayed back to get that. Sean didn't talk until literally the show ended. So I didn't have the opportunity to jump on and talk with you guys. But let's first recap what he kind of said, because this was 12 hours after the game ended. He got to rewatch the tape. He got to kind of let the emotions out of the game and just look at it before talking to us. And what I found interesting, he was asked, does a beat down feel worse than just a traditional loss? What do you think his answer was?
Henry Chisholm (1:55)
Man, does it feel worse than a traditional loss? Yes, it absolutely does.
Zac Stevens (2:00)
Yeah, he said, he said, it definitely feels worse.
Henry Chisholm (2:03)
I know, because sometimes he comes in and wants to do like that. It's not, his whole thing is the good's never as good as you think, the bad's never as bad as you think. And so I wouldn't be surprised if he had come in and said, you know, it looks worse the first time, but then you go back, it's not that, but no, it does feel worse.
Zac Stevens (2:18)
Yep, 100%, because there's just so much to clean up. And my guess is why he was 55 minutes late to that press conference yesterday. It's because the team meeting went extra long, because there was extra number of things to correct. So let's kind of dive in to some other things that we learned from Sean from that press conference yesterday, because there were a couple of very interesting things that he said, not only about it feeling definitely worse, but he had some insight into what happened. We also talked to Mike McGlinchey and Zach Allen can touch on a couple of those things. And I have one thing from Zach Allen and Alex Singleton, that I want to ask you, Henry, because man, they said something that really put Broncos country up in arms. And so I want to get your opinion on that. But let's start with Sean Payton's press conference. I asked him, why did Bo struggle so much in this game? Because Henry, Bo had a career high number of fumbles. Only one was lost, but three fumbles. You know how many fumbles he had all of last year?
Henry Chisholm (3:20)
I know you said it after the game.
Zac Stevens (3:25)
He had two lost last year, three total, four total. So in this game, he had half the number of fumbles lost of all of last year. And he had just one shy of the total number of fumbles just that hit the ground from last year. It just shows how uncharacteristic this game was. And then sacks wise, he tied a career high with four sacks. He's had four sacks and two other games and he tied that. I mean, this was arguably his worst game of his NFL career. Like you could put it up there with some other games where he didn't have very many passing yards, but it's not like he threw the ball a lot in this game either. So it was a really bad game. So I asked Sean after watching the tape, what did you see to Bo leading to all of that? And he pointed to something that wasn't really with Bo.
