We have breaking news on the status of Jaxson Dart. First off, this has come from a reputable source. You don't have to tell me the name, but with you guys producing the show today, is it a reputable source, yay or nay?
Chris McMonigle (0:17)
Yay, yay.
Craig Carton (0:18)
Yay, okay. Have they put, have they updated us on the exact injury and or the exact amount of time we expect Jaxson to be out, either of those two things, or both of those or neither of those?
SPEAKER_3 (0:33)
Bit of a combination.
Craig Carton (0:34)
A little combo platter, a poo poo platter Big Mac, a little spare rib, out of fried wonton.
Chris McMonigle (0:41)
Let's go Alfred, let's talk. Can we just go?
Craig Carton (0:42)
What is the injury update, if you don't mind, sir?
SPEAKER_3 (0:45)
Coming down from Adam Schefter, we have breaking further tests today revealed, Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart's knee injury is worse than initially thought.
Craig Carton (0:53)
Stop, stop, repeat those last four or five words there.
SPEAKER_3 (0:57)
Jaxson Dart's knee injury is worse than initially thought.
Craig Carton (1:00)
So it is not just a sprain, them shells we thought last night, that was off an X-ray, not an MRI. Correct. MRI has now been done, imaging is back.
Keep going down the line of the injury itself. What do you have?
SPEAKER_3 (1:12)
And the team and Dart are now facing the possibility of season ending knee surgery.
Craig Carton (1:21)
Anything else in there?
SPEAKER_3 (1:22)
That's it.
Craig Carton (1:22)
That's the gist of it. The knee injury worse than what they thought last night, and they're now considering the possibility of season ending knee surgery.
Chris McMonigle (1:36)
Can we catch a freaking break?
Craig Carton (1:39)
Wow.
Chris McMonigle (1:39)
I mean, this is unbelievable. That is a body blow. All freaking night long, under the assumption of three to four weeks, maybe six, he's trying to get back onto the field. They don't take his uniform off until they force him in the third quarter. Every expectation, every single stupid doctor on Twitter or Facebook or wherever else, oh, I've seen this a million times. It's an MCL sprain.
Now we're getting word that it could be worse. Worse how? Is it MCL tear? Is it ACL tear?
Craig Carton (2:12)
Well, he's out possibly for the year now and may require season ending knee surgery, which also means theoretically it puts the start of next season. In doubt all the lately guys will come back quicker than that.
Chris McMonigle (2:24)
Everyone's coming back.
SPEAKER_3 (2:25)
But that is the body blow you were not prepared for.
Chris McMonigle (2:28)
No, I was not prepared for it. I did not expect it. I was not prepared for it.
SPEAKER_3 (2:31)
Wow.
Chris McMonigle (2:32)
It is a disaster. It is a season ender not only for Jaxson Dart, but the New York Giants. It is a absolute disaster of news. I mean, again, I don't know what that means though.
Craig Carton (2:43)
I can tell you what it means.
SPEAKER_3 (2:44)
We don't know what it means.
Chris McMonigle (2:45)
We don't have the injury, and he said they're facing the possibility. So is it a conversation? Can he play through it?
SPEAKER_3 (2:51)
It means it's worse than what they thought, so the MRI came back badly.
Chris McMonigle (2:55)
I know.
Craig Carton (2:55)
Obviously.
Chris McMonigle (2:56)
Thanks, Craig. My point is that ACL is an MCL. Those are two different injuries.
Craig Carton (3:00)
That's right. MCL is easier to come back from. But if they're saying surgery...
Chris McMonigle (3:03)
They're saying they're discussing surgery.
Craig Carton (3:05)
That means...
Chris McMonigle (3:06)
No, it doesn't.
We don't know what it means. I don't jump to conclusions. You might be right in the end. It doesn't mean we should jump to that conclusion now.
Craig Carton (3:14)
It means your season ended last night.
Chris McMonigle (3:16)
We don't know that for sure. Not just yet. But yeah, it's devastating news. Because even now, if it's that bad, what kind of compromise Jaxson Dart do you have anyway, even if he plays?
Craig Carton (3:25)
Well, no, he can't play compromise. That's the whole point.
Chris McMonigle (3:27)
No, but I'm saying...
SPEAKER_3 (3:28)
Right? You can't put like a brace on it and go play.
Chris McMonigle (3:30)
Well, that was even with an MCL sprain, how compromised is he?
Craig Carton (3:33)
But if they say it's worse than a sprain, and I don't want to invent this, we don't know. But what's worse than a sprain? A worse sprain or a tear? Obviously, right? So you have to go into the guys now that they might have found a tear. I'm sure they go for more imaging. They'll get a second opinion and all that. But this, no joke, and I feel terrible about this, because if he's out for the year, your season's over.
