Breaking down Yankees BURNING questions for crucial offseason | 'Go Get 'Em'

The Carton Show with Craig Carton & Chris McMonigle

October 15, 2026

After a week to cool down, Chris McMonigle returns with his thoughts on the Yankees season, if big changes are needed, and how hot Aaron Boone's seat should be. Plus, going through the roster and debating who should stay and who should go after another playoff run ended far too early.

Big Mac, McMonigle, go get'em, buddy.

Now, here's Chris McMonigle.

Yes, sir. Yes, sir. We will go get'em. Welcome to the Go Get'em. The first one, kind of off season, go get'em. The first go get'em ever this year was right before the season started. I don't know if you classify that as an off season, but I guess there was one podcast without any games to react to. And we are here now as we begin the off season part of the go get'em. So first off, let me just tell you what's going on there. We are going to try and do two a week. I am thinking through all of this in the off season. Two a week. One can kind of just be a mail bag. I am going to give you the email that you guys can email me with questions, thoughts.

Johnny, what's up?

So I am going to tweet out the email, but it's gogettemyanks at gmail.com. Go get them Yanks 28 as they still chase that elusive 28th championship. So go get them yanks28 at gmail.com. I'll tweet that out as well, but you guys can send me e-mails. So we'll try and do one specific pod where I think of something to talk about or we go through. This one, we're going to focus on the roster and maybe some final thoughts on a season now that we're a week away. But we'll do two, probably one mail bag and one specific podcast a week. I do find the labor stuff very interesting and fascinating. And I love baseball and I want to try and keep baseball going. And so I'm very into when they're going to have a deal, when we're going to have a season, when they're going to do all this stuff. So I'm sure during all that, I'll try and get some guests on and we'll try and focus on that because I do find it interesting. So that might branch out a little bit from just talking Yankees to talking the business of baseball and trying to get the sport back, obviously. But we'll try two a week, have an email. We'll do one specific, one mailbag, answer your questions, some thoughts, some different things, but should be an interesting off season. Because we still wait for the final press conference of the season with Brian Cashin and Aaron Boone.

I think we all expect them to be back, right? We all expect Aaron Boone to be back for his final year. That's not a lock, but I think we'd all be surprised if the Yankees forgo bringing him back for his last season. We're going to talk about this in just a second, but I don't think any of us expect him not to get this final year of his contract, especially with, as I was just talking about, the lockout looming. I do think there's just the practical nature of bringing in a new manager, not going to be able to talk to the players after December 1st. When would they even get around to hiring a manager? It's a long, drawn out process. Then you hire him, maybe he's got two weeks to talk to players. Then it's a rushed spring training into a season. A lot of expectations. New Yankee manager off of the failures of Aaron Boone. It's just a lot. Now having said that, if they deem that Aaron Boone is not the guy moving forward, that should not stop him. But it's hard to believe off the season, off every single person affiliated with the Yankees that I talk to, that Craig and I talk to, saying almost universally that this was the best job Aaron Boone has done in his Yankee tenure. That's how the Yankees felt about the regular season. I would be surprised if Aaron Boone is not back. So we're waiting on the Cashman who doesn't have a contract. I would expect Brian Cashman to get another four or five-year contract and that be the end of it. I don't know if he would go any further than that, but we all know this, right? And we don't even have to get into it. The owner, whether you think he's complacent or whether there's just the idea of he knows what he's getting from Brian Cashman, and he believes clinching a ticket to the dance is the best way to go about winning, and he knows Brian Cashman will do it. Wherever you fall on that part of how Hal views it, I think we all agree, Hal has no interest in moving on from Brian Cashman. And we can debate whether or not that would be the right thing or the wrong thing, but there is no doubt he has no appetite to move on from Brian Cashman. So as long as Brian Cashman wants the job, I would imagine he has it, and we are just waiting for the end of your press conference to hear how nothing is going to change, I guess, right? That's everyone's go-to. But before we get into that, let's just a couple of last thoughts on the season now that we're a week out. Now that we've had time to digest exactly what went wrong in the postseason as we're watching. As I was doing this, I believe it was 3-0 Tampa still, top of the seventh, 3-0 Tampa. Obviously, Cleveland takes game one, which infuriates us even more.
