Hello, and welcome to that being Karen Kilgariff.
Georgia Hardstark (0:20)
And to that being Georgia Hardstark. This is our bonus advice episode. We've done it before.
It's worked out great. We solve all your problems by answering questions that you, our listeners, have submitted. We're calling it Advice with Karen and Georgia, brought to you by cars.com.
Karen Kilgariff (0:36)
Because whether you're trying to find the right car or you need life advice, having a trusted source makes it a whole lot easier. Just to be clear, we're the trusted source in this situation. I don't know who trusts us, but there's got to be someone out there.
Georgia Hardstark (0:50)
I mean, someone knows.
Karen Kilgariff (0:52)
Yeah. Do you want to go first?
Georgia Hardstark (0:53)
Sure.
This one is from at aa underscore McKnight on Instagram. The question is this, how do I talk to my mom about the fact that she's in a relationship of sorts with a scammer?
Karen Kilgariff (1:08)
Oh no.
Georgia Hardstark (1:10)
So someone's mom is like in love and-
Karen Kilgariff (1:15)
Mine did that.
Georgia Hardstark (1:16)
With a scammer? What'd you do?
Karen Kilgariff (1:19)
I was a kid, nothing. But we didn't like him and we let her know the whole time. I think you just got to be a bug in her ear.
Georgia Hardstark (1:25)
Yes.
Karen Kilgariff (1:26)
You know, doesn't have to be mean, doesn't have to, you don't have to demand anything.
Georgia Hardstark (1:30)
Yeah. But just like reality check of, hey, the vote is no over here still.
Karen Kilgariff (1:34)
Because you know that thing when you break up with someone, I was like, yeah, no one liked him. You're like, what? Didn't anyone tell me?
Georgia Hardstark (1:39)
Yes.
Karen Kilgariff (1:39)
That's the same thing where it's like you just need to give her the information and let her do with it what she wants.
Georgia Hardstark (1:44)
I feel like it was you and I were talking about this recently where it's like, the problem with love is you go insane and you are kind of stupid. Yeah.
Karen Kilgariff (1:51)
Your brain chemicals are all wonky.
Georgia Hardstark (1:54)
You're seeing things, it's like, it's just some dude and you're like, he's the most beautiful and all your friends are like, what are you talking about? Totally.
That's the kind of insanity everyone does. Hard if it's your mom. It's very hard.
Karen Kilgariff (2:07)
I think if you just tell her to keep an eye out for red flags, she'll start to notice them herself. You can kind of nudge the needle a little bit.
Georgia Hardstark (2:15)
Also, you can say, hey mom, why don't you go ahead and give me $15,000 to hold for you? Right. Why don't you put it all in my name?
Karen Kilgariff (2:22)
Yeah. Okay. Let's see. Let me find one.
Georgia Hardstark (2:25)
I hope that works out okay.
Karen Kilgariff (2:26)
Me too. That's a hard one. Here's one from Ryan M who wrote on our Discord asking, how do you find motivation every morning when you start your day?
I'm asking you for me too because I don't know.
Georgia Hardstark (2:40)
Motivation. I think that when I got my first job in television, I had been in my own mind a loser for so long, and I'd watched enough friends do well and get themselves somewhere, that I was like, I have to do this and I have to do it correctly.
Karen Kilgariff (2:58)
Yeah.
Georgia Hardstark (2:58)
So I think if you, the fear of God is very helpful, financial hardship is very helpful.
But then also, I think it's like knowing your own reason. So it's like, what is the thing that you're getting up for this reason, but if you're tired or there's a physical thing, how much coffee do you need? Get into a problem-solving spot for yourself.
Karen Kilgariff (3:21)
Yeah. Or have a treat or something you love every morning that you can look forward to, like whatever your coffee order is or however you like it. Just allow it because you need, that's all you have to get up in the morning. That's something.
Georgia Hardstark (3:34)
Yeah. I also think reading autobiographies where successful people tell you how they got to a thing. Yeah. Then you can just kind of play at, oh, I am a CEO now, this is how that person did it or whatever.
You just kind of trick yourself. If you're that interested, that means that you have it in you already.
Karen Kilgariff (3:51)
Yeah. Love that.
Georgia Hardstark (3:52)
Yeah. Okay, go ahead. Oh, this is kind of fun.
