Bo Nix’s 35-yard connection with Jaylen Waddle highlights otherwise lopsided loss to Packers

DNVR Broncos Post Game, coming to you from the Toyota Lounge. RK here, joined by my guy, Henry Chisholm, to my right and to my left, Super Bowl 50 Champion, Benny Fowler. Boys, it's over. That game is officially over. And for that, we are thankful. But there were some highlights. There was stuff to be excited about. It was exactly what I talked about before the game. Just all the good stuff happened immediately. And then we had to wait it out for like three hours to be able to come here and talk about them.
And so I'll start with you, Benny. Just give me your biggest takeaway.
Likely coming from the starters in that game.

My biggest takeaway without stating the obvious, you know, number 17, Jaylen Waddle would to me was just a start the clock. Fluent, calm, Bo Nix.
That would be my biggest takeaway. Obviously, the Jaylen Waddle play is what's going to get talked about the most because he is your newest addition. But to me, I just love what I saw from Bo in terms of his calm feet in the pocket. He didn't look too rushed. He did have to scramble a few times when he did get pressure up the middle, but he looked poised. The dime to RJ Harvey, the touchdown to RJ Harvey showed me that he... This is what we talked about pregame. It's like we just want to see him be comfortable and we want to see him make these throws. And he had the right loft and air on that ball, on that touchdown pass to RJ Harvey. So to me, Bo Nix just being comfortable is my biggest takeaway without mentioning number 17

Yeah, I think the depth is probably what stands out to me. If other than number 17 and what you guys said, there's no rule against talking about number 17 Well, then let's just talk about that.

No, I mean, that fall off the scene was incredible.
It's just unbelievable how Jaylen was able to just make that little move, get by the corner. And then even if it wasn't a perfect throw, there was just so much separation that Bo could get the ball up there and he was going to have plenty of time to come back to it a bit and grab it. And then afterwards, at this point, I'm happy. Like the play could end right there, but he's able to make a move, turn on the jets and get to the edge. Like not a touchdown or anything, of course, but just so explosive. And he used that explosiveness twice on the same play, which is pretty incredible.

The only reason why he didn't score is because he was so excited.

Right.

Because, yeah, he lost the ball.

He did.

**Benny Fowler** (2:42)
He was about to fumble the ball because he was so excited. I would say a couple of things on that play, and I'll watch the All 22 tomorrow just so I can see it. But it was a simple all go concept with Evan Ingram coming, breaking into the right on a shallow route. Evan Ingram was open. And I think if it was man to man coverage, Pat Bryant was open too.
Bo Nix wanted to go to Jaylen Waddle. He wanted to throw the ball to him.
And Hank, like you said, yeah, simple seam route that Jaylen Waddle was running right up the seam. But the flair and the emphasis at the top of the route is something that you haven't had in a while in this receiver room. And the explosiveness, I mean, one catch, one target, 35 yards. So this is somebody who doesn't need a lot of catches to get to 100 yards. I mean, if he had caught the ball two more times, he'd probably have 200, not 200 yards, but he'd have close to 100 yards, just based off of how he can play and how he can just... The run after the catch ability has not existed in this room for a very long time. And this type of dynamic playmaking ability, to me, is what can elevate Bo Nix into a top 10 QB.

Yeah, I mean, that play stopped me in my tracks to think about, like we and I have seen a Broncos player look like that.
And I don't know, I'm kind of drawing a blank. Like the shake to get open, the catch, and then to go from stopped to, I'm running away from you, no one's going to catch me. And probably, like you said, Benny, if he holds on to that ball and is able to keep his eyes on the defenders, he might just wiggle past everyone and go to the house.
