The regular season is finally here for the Denver Broncos on Wednesday. They held their first regular season practice heading into Monday night against the Chiefs. Let me just say there was a animal on the field. Before I tell you everything you need to know about the Broncos practice, make sure to hit this video with a thumbs up, subscribe to this channel, and let's dive in to what you need to know. Bo Nix is ready to be unleashed like a mountain lion. It's been nearly nine months since Bo played in a real NFL game. That along with the broken ankle that kept him out of the AFC Championship game has him itching to be back. According to Courtland Sutton, Bo is more than just itching to be back. Sutton explained why following Wednesday's practice. This is a long quote, but it's worth it to stay with me. Sutton said, quote, I'm excited. I'm a little nervous for everybody else. He's a competitor now. You guys may have not got to see it because it was a lot of behind the scenes.
But seeing the way things ended last year and understanding the type of player he is and the competitor he is, I was just excited to see him get out there and throw the ball a little in the preseason. But to see where his mindset is already transitioning into with the bonus day and rolling into today, and then just knowing how he is, I'm looking forward to watching him go out there and shake on Monday night. He's like a mountain lion that's in the zoo that's pacing. I saw a mountain lion at the Colorado Zoo. He was just pacing back and forth. And I was like, y'all don't want that boy to get out. It's not going to be good. But that's what Bo reminds me of. He's just like mentally, you can tell that he's just like, I'm ready to go do this.
End quote. Bo Nix then talked and he said he didn't mind the comparison of being compared to a mountain lion. He said, quote, that's a good comparison. One that I'll take. I definitely think the thing about mountain lions once you notice them is because they noticed you a long time ago. I'm just excited to get out there. I feel like I'm pacing. And Courtland Sutton is not the only player to notice how ready Bo is to get back out on the game field. According to Pat Surtain, Bo is even better than before. And Denver's franchise quarterback is, quote, ready to show the world what he's about. End quote. He's ready to make a statement this year. On Wednesday, Bo said he doesn't need time to get on to the game field, to get back to the player of who he is. He's ready to go now.
And Nix's first opportunity will be on the big stage, not only on Monday Night Football Primetime, but going against Patrick Mahomes. This is going to be a blast. Some great news for the Broncos. The Broncos had every single player on the 53-man roster at practice during their first official practice of the regular season on Wednesday. Denver suffered a number of injuries during training camp, but remarkably had every player on the active roster at practice to kick off their preparation for the Kansas City Chiefs. Jalen Waddle, Nick Benito, Marvin Mimps, Riley Moss and Luke Wattenberg were a number of high-profile players that missed time due to injury during camp. But all of them were at practice on Wednesday. An official injury report won't be released until after Thursday's practice, since the team has a couple of bonus practices this week with the game on Monday night. The Chiefs, on the other hand, are not as fortunate with a number of players dealing with injuries, including their starting left tackle, Josh Simmons is expected to be a long shot to play. Who would fill in for him? An undrafted rookie free agent. You get this Broncos pass rush, the best in the NFL the past two years, going up against a guy making his NFL debut.
Good luck to an injured Patrick Mahomes that has to be back there. Make sure to like this video, subscribe to this channel, helps us out a lot. We got the best Broncos content for you year in and year out. Let me tell you about the captains that the Broncos announced on Wednesday. There's nine of them. Bo Nix, Alex Singleton, Courtland Sutton, Pat Surtain, Quinn Meinerz, Talanoa Hufanga, DJ. Jones, Wil Lutz and Devon Key. It's nearly the exact same group as last year. The only difference is the addition of Devon Key on special teams. It's the third year in a row Bo has been a captain, making him a captain every single year of his career. And that's not going to change. He's going to maintain to be a captain every year of his career. And captains were voted on by the players. So congratulations to all of those captains. One of the things that players talk about after that is how there really could be 15 or 20 captains on this team because of how many leaders there are. So really cool for those nine guys. Next piece of news, the first unofficial depth chart of the regular season dropped on Wednesday. And while it should not be relied on because it's not 100% factual since it's unofficial, there were a couple of interesting notes. The first one is that rookies are no longer guaranteed to be last at their position. During the preseason, that's how Sean Payton does it. He puts rookies last at their position even if they're not really. And so Jonah Coleman is moving up the depth chart. He's now listed as a third running back behind starter JK. Dobbins and RJ. Harvey, but ahead of Tyler Bade. Marvin Mims joins Courtland Sutton and Jalen Waddle as the starting receivers. And also Malcolm Roach has a starting spot that JFM had last year. There's some other news and notes to get to. Once again, hit us with a thumbs up and subscribe to this video. Bo Nix believes the Broncos will have an advantage with Davis Webb calling plays against the Chiefs since they won't have any tendencies on who Webb is as a play caller. So that's a plus for the Broncos heading into Monday Night Football. Jonah Elliss will start and place Jonathan Cooper across from Nick Benito. Q Robinson will have a significant role off the bench as well. And on Wednesday, the Broncos are wearing their white helmets at practice. Shortly after practice, the team announced that they will be wearing all white. For Monday Night Football, they did it in the game in Kansas City last year on Christmas and it looked great. So they're going back to it for prime time again. Pat Surtain is not looking for a new deal after Christian Gonzalez $135 million deal that he got on Tuesday. Surtain is now the ninth highest paid cornerback in the NFL in terms of average per year. However, he is in the top five in cash for cornerbacks that he's getting this year after an unprecedented $5 million raise this year and an additional $5 million next year as long as he's a pro bowler or a pro this year, which he will be. And finally, Drew Sanders was waved off IR. He cleared waivers. But right now that ends his time with the Broncos. So much more to get to throughout this weekend. We're going to have more updates as this week gets closer to Monday Night Football.
