Welcome back to the Daily Crypto Roundup. Bitcoin has lost almost $3,000 from today's high, and the clearest pressure is coming from outside crypto.

A powerful United States business survey pushed the 10-year treasury yield above 5%, strengthened the dollar and hit technology shares. Now an $18 billion Bitcoin and Ethereum options expiry is approaching. BitMEX has stopped trading after 11 years, and Solana is testing a radically faster consensus system. At the time of recording, Bitcoin is around $84,600, down approximately 1.9% over 24 hours after trading as high as $87,251.

Ethereum is near $2,679 and lower by roughly 2.3%.

XRP is close to $1.53 after losing about 2.5%.

While BNB is around $768 and Solana is near $115.30.

Hyperliquid is close to $95.10 and slightly positive. Cardano is around $0.24 and Chainlink is near $12.33, with Chainlink the weakest of this group at approximately 5.1% lower. Bitcoin Cash is the notable exception, near $345 and up roughly 6.6%.

The lead story is why the market has reversed after Bitcoin held near $86,000 yesterday. The immediate trigger was stronger than expected United States economic data. S&P Global's Manufacturing Purchasing Manager's Index rose to 57 when economists had expected 53.5.

Its services reading reached 58.7 against a forecast of 56 Numbers above 50 indicate expansion, and these were strong enough to make traders reconsider how much more tightening the Federal Reserve may need. The United States' 10-year Treasury yield rose approximately 11 basis points to 5.06%, close to a 20-year high. Germany's 10-year yield reached about 3.53%, while Italian and Spanish yields also climbed. The United States' dollar index gained roughly 0.4% to its strongest level since late July. The Nasdaq composite fell about 1.2%, and West Texas Intermediate Crude rose around 1.7% to $92.10.

Those markets tell a coherent story. Strong growth data make additional rate increases easier to justify. Higher government bond yields increase the return available from relatively defensive assets and raise the discount rate applied to technology companies and crypto. A stronger dollar adds another headwind because Bitcoin is priced globally against it. More expensive oil keeps an inflation risk alive. What changed today is that the macro backdrop turned hostile again. What did not change is the Federal Reserve's policy rate, Bitcoin's network or the almost $1 billion that entered United States' spot Bitcoin funds on Monday.

Tuesday's fund flow report was not complete at the reporting cutoff, so it would be wrong to claim that exchange-traded funds caused today's drop. The coming derivatives event can amplify the next move. Nearly $15.9 billion of Bitcoin options and approximately $2.1 billion of Ethereum options expire on Friday, September 25th at 8 a.m. Coordinated Universal Time. The Bitcoin contracts represent about 37% of all Bitcoin options' open interest on Deribit. Calls exceed putts and large positions sit at $85,000, $90,000, $95,000, and $100,000.

Deribit chief executive Luke Striers called it one of the largest of the year. Dealers may hedge around heavily populated strikes before settlement which can restrain or sharpen short-term moves. After expiry, that positioning pressure fades. This does not mean options cause today's bond sell-off and the frequently quoted maximum pain level near $75,000 is not a prediction. Holders who reduced risk above $87,000 benefit from the reversal. Leveraged longs and rate-sensitive tokens lose first. The bearish interpretation strengthens if Bitcoin loses today's low near $84,030 and then the estimated fund-cost basis around $82,225.

It weakens if the 10-year yield drops back below 5%.

Bitcoin retakes $85,000 and fresh fund demand appears. Do you need the yield below 5% before trusting another crypto bounce? Or is holding above the fund-cost basis enough? BitMEX supplied today's consequential industry ending.

At 4 a.m. UTC, the exchange stopped trading, deposits and the opening of new positions after 11 years. Withdrawals remain available, so this is not a frozen customer funds announcement. But eligible balances left after the Know Your Customer deadline are now subject to a monthly administration charge, calculated from an annualized 1% rate or a minimum equivalent to $50, whichever is greater.

Founded in 2014 by Arthur Hayes, Ben Dillo and Samuel Reed, BitMEX helped popularize the perpetual swap, the derivative that now dominates crypto trading. Its closure was announced in July, but today is when the market actually stopped. Reuters previously reported daily volume around $400,000 and a market share below 0.01%, showing how far the venue had fallen from its peak. Kaiko research analyst Thomas Probst said the shutdown may show major exchanges gaining weight at the expense of smaller competitors. The counterargument is that BitMEX's legal history and shrinking activity make it a special case, not a verdict on every independent venue. Customers benefit from continued withdrawals but face fees if they delay.

Watch withdrawal processing, residual balances, any final regulatory filing and phishing attempts are tending to offer expedited access. MoonPay is moving in the opposite direction. The crypto payments company agreed to acquire North Capital in an all-stock transaction valued above $60 million, subject to regulatory approval. North Capital and its affiliates bring United States broker-dealer, alternative trading system, transfer agent and investment advisor registrations, along with infrastructure that has handled approximately $9 billion in primary and secondary transactions. MoonPay chief executive Ivan Soto Wright said the deal is about building the regulatory foundation for tokenized real-world assets. The strategic logic is clear. Combine crypto payments and wallets with regulated issuance, trading and ownership records. What has not changed is ownership, because the transaction has not closed, and no tokenized asset gains approval automatically. MoonPay benefits if it becomes infrastructure for issuers, rather than only an entry point for buyers. The thesis fails if approval stalls or customers do not use the combined platform. Watch the closing decision. North Capital's retained registrations and the first-name security issued or traded through the combined business. If you want to protect your crypto with a hardware wallet, our Ledger link is in the description. Solana's Alpenglow consensus upgrade has reached a public test network with an extraordinary target. Reducing finality from roughly 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds. The new voter component lets validators vote directly and can finalize a block in one or two rounds instead of wading through the current tower Byzantine fault tolerance sequence. This is a real engineering milestone, not a mainnet launch. Initial testing uses Agave version 4.3, while FireDancer and FrankenDancer clients are not supported in the first phase. September 28th is a tentative Agave feature date, not a confirmed Alpenglow activation date for the live network. Users and trading applications could gain much faster certainty that a transaction will not be reversed. Validators and infrastructure providers face new software, networking and operational demands. Would you trust 150-millisecond finality on Mainnet before alternative validator clients support it? The positive case fails if the public test reveals unstable voting, network partitions or client concentration.
