Welcome back to the Daily Crypto Roundup. Bitcoin has broken above $85,000, but today's rally is not one clean bet on crypto.
Falling oil and treasury yields opened the door. $648 million of liquidated shorts forced it wider, and corporate purchases strengthened the story. The danger is that new leverage is arriving almost as fast as bearish positions are being destroyed. At the time of recording, Bitcoin is around $85,925.
Up approximately 6.4% over 24 hours, after reaching about $86,036.
Ethereum is near $2,738 and higher by roughly 5.4%.
XRP is close to $1.50 after gaining about 7.9%, while BNB is around $798.
Solana is near $118.25 and up approximately 9.3%.
Hyperliquid is close to $94.10.
Cardano is around $0.24, and Chainlink is near $13.
Cardano is the strongest move in this group at roughly 10%.
But the advance is broad rather than confined to one token.

The lead story is why Bitcoin and almost the entire crypto market are rising today. Start with the macro opening.
Brent Crude fell by more than 3% during Monday trading as Saudi exports recovered, and diplomatic efforts raised hopes for more Middle Eastern supply. The United States' 10-year Treasury yield moved back below 5%, while major equity indexes rose with technology shares leading. That combination matters because cheaper energy reduces one immediate source of inflation pressure, and lower bond yields make non-yielding or volatile assets slightly less expensive to hold. It does not mean the Federal Reserve has turned friendly. Markets still expect more tightening. The dollar remains firm, and oil is above $100.
Today's environment became less hostile. It did not become easy money. Crypto then added its own accelerant. Across digital asset derivatives, $746.6 million of positions were liquidated in 24 hours.
Shorts accounted for $647.9 million, including about $277.5 million in Bitcoin shorts and $122.8 million in Ethereum shorts. A short liquidation requires an exchange to buy back the asset, so one forced purchase pushes price higher and can trigger the next layer. The squeeze became especially concentrated during the European morning. At one point, shorts represented 95% of hourly liquidations. That helps explain the speed from roughly $82,000 toward $85,000.
It does not explain who started buying before the liquidations began. The next clue is open interest. Total crypto futures' open interest increased 7.59% to $156 billion even while losing positions were being closed. Trading volume rose 39% to $224 billion.
If this were only old shorts disappearing, open interest should normally contract. Instead, traders are replacing closed positions and adding new ones. Buyers are also responsible for approximately 53% of aggressive futures' flow, a modest bullish tilt rather than overwhelming one-way demand. That creates the central tension. The rally has participation, but it also has more leverage. Holders and disciplined buyers benefit as resistance breaks. Short sellers lose immediately. Late-leveraged longs become the next vulnerable group if price reverses and funding costs climb. Corporate buying provided another confidence signal. Strategy disclosed today that it bought 950 Bitcoin last week for $75.7 million at an average price of $79,670, its first weekly purchase since late August. Strategy now holds 846,000 Bitcoin acquired for $63.81 billion.
The purchase did not happen this morning, so it did not mechanically create today's entire move. The disclosure nevertheless shows that the largest corporate Bitcoin holder resumed buying before the breakout. Bitmine Immersion Technologies disclosed a parallel purchase, 27,562 Ether last week, worth about $75 million today. It now holds almost 5.98 million Ether, approximately 4.9% of supply. Chairman Tom Lee said institutions have been underweighted crypto and expects them to increase exposure in the final three months of 2026 That is his forecast. It is not proof that institutions are buying today. The price move has now reclaimed the estimated average cost basis for United States spot Bitcoin exchange traded funds, around $82,225 for the first time since January. That level is a consequence and a technical signal, not a cause. Monday's completed fund flow numbers are not yet available. Friday's $433 million inflow helped establish the rebound, but we cannot claim fresh exchange traded fund money caused today's extension until the new data arrive.
The bullish interpretation strengthens if Bitcoin holds $85,000, clears today's roughly $86,036 high and reaches $87,000, where it would turn positive for the year. It fails if price loses $82,225, while open interest remains elevated, because that would leave crowded new longs exposed. Would you trust this rally more because open interest is expanding or less because leverage is rebuilding so quickly? The second story is a material update to Saturday's unresolved MultiversX warning. MultiversX has now confirmed that an actor attempted to exploit a virtual machine level atomicity issue. The attempt created invalid state changes, and developers stopped network progression while preparing a repair for testing on a shadow fork. Today, South Korean exchange Upbit placed EGLD's one. Bitcoin and Tether markets under formal trading caution. Deposits and withdrawals remain suspended. Upbit says withdrawals will return before deposits if service resumes, while Kraken has placed EGLD markets into cancel only mode. MultiversX has told users not to submit or re-broadcast transactions, and not to move EGLD or ecosystem tokens through exchanges or bridges until an all clear. What changed is the confirmed exploit attempt and formal exchange review. What did not change is the absence of a verified loss total. Security tracker Slow Mist lists no confirmed financial loss, and MultiversX has not connected the incident to its recent Supernova upgrade. EGLD is around $4.24 and up approximately 19% over 24 hours at recording time. That rebound does not prove the network is repaired. Users benefit from exchanges blocking transfers while the state is uncertain, but they lose access and liquidity. The recovery case fails if shadow fork testing cannot reproduce the issue. Invalid state cannot be corrected without harming legitimate transactions or exchanges refuse to reopen. Watch the patch, validator coordination, a technical postmortem, restored block progression and Upbit's expected decision window from October 19th through October 23rd. If you want to protect your crypto with a hardware wallet, our Ledger link is in the description. The European Central Bank supplied the third story by launching Pontes, a platform that allows eligible financial institutions to settle tokenized asset transactions in central bank money. Pontes connects distributed ledger market systems to the EuroSystems target payment services. This solves the cash side of a tokenized trade. A bond or fund can exist on a distributed ledger, but the buyer still needs money the seller will accept without taking stable coin or commercial bank credit risk. Pontes gives approved institutions central bank money for that settlement. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde described it as, a digital euro made available for banks, but it is not the retail digital euro and ordinary consumers cannot use it. What changed is that Pontes is live. What did not change is access. Only eligible institutions and market infrastructure providers can participate and activity has not yet proved scale. Banks and tokenized market operators gain a settlement option. Private stable coin issuers could lose part of the wholesale market if central bank money becomes preferred. The thesis fails if institutions do not connect meaningful assets or if integration preserves the same cost and delay. Watch the first name settlements, transaction value and the later Appia platform intended to broaden wholesale tokenization. Hyperliquid then added two tools for a market that is already becoming more leveraged. Perpetual futures linked to the Bitcoin VOLMEX implied volatility index began trading today through Kinetics Markets Interface. The index measures expected 30-day Bitcoin volatility, so traders can bet on the size of price swings without choosing up or down. Contracts are denominated and collateralized in USDC with leverage up to five times. Hyperliquid also introduced trailing stops across its perpetual markets. A trader can set a trigger that follows the mark price while a position moves in their favor, then submits a market order after a chosen reversal. The benefit is simpler hedging and risk management. The risk is precision. A trailing stop triggers from the mark price but fills against available liquidity, so execution can be worse during a fast move. A volatility perpetual also adds liquidation, oracle and smart contract risk. Watch volume, spreads, oracle performance, and the difference between trigger and execution prices during the next reversal. Finally, Hana Bank issued a $100 million foreign currency digital bond through Euroclear's distributed ledger infrastructure. The issuance and payment settled on the same day, known as T plus zero, rather than the three to five business days common in conventional processing. It is the first direct use of Euroclear's blockchain issuance platform by a South Korean financial institution. This is regulated bank funding using blockchain infrastructure, not a permissionless retail bond. Hana Bank and investors benefit if faster settlement reduces cost and counterparty exposure. One transaction cannot prove repeatable savings. Watch a second issuance named Investors, disclosed fees and whether South Korea's planned tokenized securities framework in February 2027 makes the model routine. Your watch list is exact. For Bitcoin, watch $85,000, today's $86,036 high, $87,000, and the $82,225 exchange-traded fund cost basis, followed by Monday's completed fund flows. For MultiversX, demand the patch, stable block production, exchange reopenings and a loss assessment. For Pontes, look for a named settlement and transaction value. For Hyperliquid, compare trigger prices with actual fills. For Hana Bank, wait for repeat issuance rather than treating one bond as an entire market. Today's rally has real ingredients, but they do different jobs. Falling oil and yields improve the setting. Forced short buying accelerated the breakout. Corporate disclosures strengthened confidence while growing open interest added both participation and fragility. The test is no longer whether Bitcoin can touch $85,000.
