A little biscuit, why not? On a Tuesday, in New York City, 888-808-1019, all good in the hood. Big Mac's here, of course.
I guess at some point today, we'll deal with the reality that Cashman's back, Boone's back, everybody's back, and they're gonna have a Zoom call tomorrow, which pisses me off to no end.
Chris McMonigle (0:22)
Are you one of these people who gives a damn?
Craig Carton (0:25)
I want a press conference. I do.
Chris McMonigle (0:27)
It's why?
Craig Carton (0:28)
Tell me why.
Chris McMonigle (0:29)
Tell me how it makes it any different, any better. The questions would be any different, any tougher. It's the exact same thing.
Craig Carton (0:36)
No, it's not.
Chris McMonigle (0:36)
They don't live at Yankee Stadium, nor do the Beat Riders or anybody else who might want to answer a question. It's the convenience of today. Would I rather have it be at the dais or whatever at Yankee Stadium?
I don't care, but I suppose why not?
Craig Carton (0:49)
Because it's different. Who cares?
Chris McMonigle (0:50)
It's more personal.
Craig Carton (0:52)
Because if I'm talking to you via a camera on my laptop versus me sitting in front of you, there's a different dynamic to it. The follow-up questions are different because we're looking at each other. The room can see one sec, I'm following up based on your answer. And it's much more difficult for people to get over on reporters when they're sitting right in front of them. I want to see Hal Steinbrenner's face and his eyes when I ask the question and then when I don't like the answer, I follow up with it.
It is a cop-out to have a Zoom press conference. There's no difference.
Chris McMonigle (1:29)
There's literally no difference.
Craig Carton (1:30)
You ask any reporter what they'd rather do.
Chris McMonigle (1:32)
I bet you they'd rather do it from home than get all gussied up and go to the entrance stadium.
Craig Carton (1:36)
No, that's not the job. That ain't the job.
Chris McMonigle (1:37)
There is no difference. There's no difference.
Listen, ask the tough questions they're going to be asked. You're going to see their face, they're going to have to answer. If they don't want you to follow up in person, they'll make sure you don't follow up in person.
Craig Carton (1:48)
It's hard to stop me in person for following up. They'll do it.
Chris McMonigle (1:51)
It's the exact same thing. They just want more control because they don't want to answer tough questions.
That's so silly. They're going to get asked the tough questions. There is not a single question that is not going to be asked to be on Zoom that wouldn't be asked to be on a press conference.
Craig Carton (2:05)
You do it in person because that's how it should be done. You can't hide behind a camera or... They're not hiding behind anyone. Watch this.
Chris McMonigle (2:11)
How are they hiding? They're literally in the face of the camera.
Craig Carton (2:14)
I'm going to show you. I'm going to show you. I just saw this yesterday with the Jets press conference.
Chris McMonigle (2:19)
It's going to cut out?
Craig Carton (2:20)
All of a sudden, it went black. Oh my stop. Because the Jets didn't want you to hear Aaron Glenn's answer.
Chris McMonigle (2:24)
That's ridiculous.
Craig Carton (2:25)
Ridiculous, but it happened.
Chris McMonigle (2:26)
It didn't happen.
Craig Carton (2:27)
Okay, let's play a game here. Coincidence. Let's play a game here. Coincidence. Okay, Billy. Let's play a game.
No, no. The question to Aaron Glenn was, how come you didn't know that the Patriots got the ball first in the second half? Well, would I?
Chris McMonigle (2:45)
The answer is out there.
Craig Carton (2:46)
Black screen. So, let's role play here for a second.
Chris McMonigle (2:49)
Okay.
Craig Carton (2:50)
I'm going to be Hal Steinbrenner. I want you to be whoever you think the toughest Yankee reporter is. I want you to ask me a tough question, and I'm going to show you why you don't do Zoom calls because they're cop outs and for the cowardly. Okay. Okay, hold on.
I'm Hal Steinbrenner. Who are you playing the role of?
Chris McMonigle (3:11)
Me.
Craig Carton (3:12)
Yes. Well, you're a shill though. This is going to be an easy question.
Chris McMonigle (3:14)
Here you go.
Craig Carton (3:15)
Yeah. Okay.
Chris McMonigle (3:16)
Do you prefer Summers in Italy, or do you prefer Summers?
Craig Carton (3:21)
Next question goes to from WFA, Chris McGonigle.
Chris McMonigle (3:26)
It's McMonigle, but thanks a lot, Hal. I appreciate it. Sure.
