I want to also say happy Rosh Hashanah to all of our Jewish listeners and your families. Hope you have a blessed new year, and enjoy your family. Those of you that go to temple and pray as well, I hope that's a positive moment for you, but a lot of things can kind of happen all at once this weekend. But it is the Jewish new year, and especially we consider some of the things happening in our world today, and our country today. It's important to show our love and respect for the Jewish community as well. So happy Rosh Hashanah to those of you that do celebrate the Jewish new year. Of course, with that, you also have the specter of the 25th anniversary of the attacks on 9-11, and yes, sports is there for us as well, to give us a chance to take a breath and get our minds off the bad things in life and memories. You've got the Subway Series tonight.
It should be a great weekend at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are playing a really good ball. New York Mets have a chance to kind of have their own little mini...
Chris McMonigle (0:57)
That's a really good ball.
Craig Carton (0:58)
Yeah, and this is like...
Chris McMonigle (0:59)
This is their World Series week. Yankee fans throw this around a lot. Whenever we feel like being douchey and say, oh, this is your World Series. I can tell you just from talking to Evan for five minutes over the last couple days, it's never been more true than this weekend. Yes. This is the Mets are playing...
SPEAKER_3 (1:17)
I heard you guys going at it, yeah.
Chris McMonigle (1:18)
He's convinced the Mets are playing, and he's right. The Mets are playing the best baseball they've played all year. So, they're playing good baseball. You're going to see most... You're going to see Scott. You're going to see McLean tonight. So, you're seeing good pitching in the Mets. They've been scoring a ton of runs.
So, I think that... And this would be, as the Yankees are trying to chase down the division, if the Mets fan can say that they're the main reason why the Yankees didn't win the division. Oh, that'd be great joy for them. That would be a great joy for them.
Craig Carton (1:46)
That's a little feather in their cap. Our season sucked, because it doesn't change the season.
Chris McMonigle (1:50)
You played a wild card series.
Craig Carton (1:52)
They're the reason you're not division champions. They'll get great joy out of that.
It's going to be a great crowd tonight, too. I wish I could beat the game tonight.
It's going to be a great crowd, I think, all weekend. It's going to be a great crowd. While it's going to be ball-busting back and forth, because of what today means outside of sports, I think it's going to be a very positive experience at the ballpark, and I think it's going to be awesome to watch. I can't wait. I know I can't be there. But I'll have the TV on. Tonight will be one of those games where even me, I don't think I'll miss a pitch at tonight's game.
Chris McMonigle (2:27)
Really?
Craig Carton (2:28)
Yeah.
Chris McMonigle (2:28)
Not a pitch?
Craig Carton (2:29)
I don't think I'll miss a pitch tonight. Okay. Yeah. Part of that's also because I want to take in all the non-baseball stuff too. Yeah. The performances we're going to see tonight, the special performances, the moment of silence I think is going to be very powerful tonight.
Whatever else the Yankees and Mets will be have planned for tonight. I think it will be very important. I assume, by the way, sometimes I think we, and I'll speak for myself, I, because I don't know what you think, sometimes mistaken 9-11 as a New York tragedy. Yeah. Which it is and was.
Chris McMonigle (3:02)
Well, of course.
Craig Carton (3:03)
As opposed to an American tragedy, which it is also. I'm just going to take the assumption.
SPEAKER_3 (3:10)
It just happened in New York City.
Craig Carton (3:11)
But I'm assuming every baseball game tonight, every football game this weekend, is going to have a moment of silence out of respect for those we lost. Oh, definitely. And I mean college football tomorrow, NFL football Sunday and Monday. I didn't see the pregame last night.
SPEAKER_3 (3:32)
I know it's in Australia.
Craig Carton (3:34)
Did they do that last night? I don't know.
Chris McMonigle (3:36)
I did not see that. I didn't get home until half time.
Craig Carton (3:38)
The only thing I saw from the pregame was that L Duncan had black surgical gloves on the entire pregame and nobody knows why. And Roger Goodell put on a kangaroo jacket with a hood.
