All right, 20 after 2, Carton Show with Big Mac.
Yes, tomorrow will be a real football Friday. Today's a venting experience, as the New York Yankees do what they do now. I hate to say it, but it's what the Yankees are. And that is good enough to get them to the postseason, not just lose in the postseason pretty quickly, but lose at home. I mean, and that's the indignity of it. You didn't even force a game four, let alone a game five, back down in Tampa. And look at the pitchers that essentially dominated this lineup. Rasmussen gets all the credit in the world.
Chris McMonigle (0:31)
Great pitcher.
Craig Carton (0:31)
No one's going to argue that that dude's one of the top pitchers in the sport. I know their closer is the best closer in the American League as well. I respect those two guys, bookend them, right?
But come on, man. So many non-competitive innings, offensively non-competitive at bats, almost like there ain't no plan. And we're throwing a line about there and crossing our fingers and throwing a coin in the fountain and hoping it works when it never does. It's really weird. I gotta be honest.
Chris McMonigle (0:59)
Very, very weird. Again, you know, the same line up scored nine runs. I don't know if there's no plan. I'm not saying it matters. I'm saying, like, well, then we say there's no plan. I mean, there's a plan. They don't execute it.
The plan is to get hits and score runs.
Craig Carton (1:13)
The plan was Christian was going to get five at bats.
Chris McMonigle (1:15)
That was the plan. Right? So you're on the same page on that. I have a question for you.
Craig Carton (1:21)
You stayed for the whole game in the stadium, right?
Chris McMonigle (1:22)
Yes.
Did the post game go better? From the Yankees stadium. Okay, great.
Craig Carton (1:27)
I'm asking you. I didn't see it. I'm not suggesting it did or didn't happen. So I'm asking the question. I want to be very clear. I set this up.
Was Hal Steinbrenner there?
Chris McMonigle (1:36)
I have no idea.
Craig Carton (1:39)
Was he at the games in Tampa? I didn't see him on TV.
Chris McMonigle (1:42)
Yeah, they haven't shown him.
Craig Carton (1:43)
Now, I know he sold a lot of, you know, percentage ownership for the Yankees. He's the controlling owner, and that doesn't change.
I'm just wondering, was the, and by the way, the answer might be 100% yes. He was at both Red Sox games. He was at the two games in Tampa. He was at the game last night. He very well might have been. I'm merely saying I never saw him.
Chris McMonigle (2:06)
Yeah, I don't know. He needs to come out and speak.
Craig Carton (2:09)
Right?
Chris McMonigle (2:09)
He needs to come out and speak.
Craig Carton (2:10)
He's been an absentee owner in a lot of ways.
Chris McMonigle (2:12)
I don't know if he's been an absentee owner.
Craig Carton (2:13)
I think so.
Chris McMonigle (2:14)
Cause he's not there on every game. I have no idea, he might have been there.
Craig Carton (2:18)
I kind of feel like, doesn't the Yankee fan base deserve to hear from him?
Chris McMonigle (2:21)
Agreed. That's what I'm saying. That's what I just said, yeah.
Craig Carton (2:24)
And I'm not saying like he has to pull Jerry Jones and have a press conference in the hallway after every game. But it'd be nice to hear from him.
Chris McMonigle (2:32)
He should tell, cause there is a growing, and it's already almost that, as much as it can grow. There's a feeling inside this fan base, without question, especially his father was who his father was, that he doesn't care, that he views this today as a success, other than maybe not getting the one more game.
Craig Carton (2:51)
Meaning 3 million fans, blah, blah, blah.
Chris McMonigle (2:53)
3 million fans, they continue this 34 years of winning seasons, they made the playoffs yet again, and quote unquote gave them a chance to compete for a championship, and ultimately, he's more disappointed that they didn't get the fourth game to have another gate at Yankee Stadium.
Craig Carton (3:07)
Sure is, by the way.
Chris McMonigle (3:08)
And that they view this all as a success. He needs to get in front of a microphone, and either confirm that, or tell us why you're upset, and how this is okay for you. And explain to us, because I do think there's a world where I don't necessarily think Hal only cares about money. I don't think Hal, that Hal Steinbrenner isn't pissed off today. I'm sure he is.
