With someone who introduces you to your first investor, or finding a potential customer who has been searching for a product just like yours, or launching in a moment when demand appears for exactly what you're offering, or landing the perfect distribution channel, that's manifesting, and it can have a magical effect.
This kind of kismet hasn't just happened to me, it's also happened to all the founders you will hear from in this book. Ordinary people who were able to tap into the endless resources inside themselves to think their dreams into reality. One example, Mohamed Elzamour, co-founder of Nine's, barely graduated from high school and dropped out of college. He then decided that he wanted to be a personal trainer to top celebrities and billionaires. Through visualization and manifesting, he tapped into the power of the universe and became one of the top trainers in New York City, working with everyone from CEOs to Victoria's Secret Models and making millions. Serial entrepreneur Adam Goodyear, founder and CEO of Real Life Tech, characterizes it this way. The absolute focus and belief that's required to see your vision through, that's manifesting. To be successful, you have to be able to think of a positive future, and then enthusiastically convince people of that future. But what really makes an entrepreneur great is the combination of that unshakable faith in their vision alongside a humility and care for others. Then you become someone everyone is drawn to, like a fire in wintertime.

In his 2018 graduation speech at Drexel University, the filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan shared his journey from Wunderken director of the global blockbuster Six Cents to Studio Maven by his 40s. After co-creating with the universe so brilliantly in his early years, his experience of delivering within the studio system had slowly robbed him of his initial energy resulting in worsening artistic and financial outcomes. But he found his way back by retreating to his Philadelphia home with the unfinished cut of the film no one wanted to distribute. He found his way back to his deep inner why by doing jigsaw puzzles with his son and remembering the joy of solving one small problem at a time. Making something better by increments in a space where all that matters is what is right in front of you. This single minded focus on creative engagement is where divine communion happens.
He went on to say, Epictetus was a Greek philosopher born in 50 AD. To believe his philosophy, you have to believe that the universe is fundamentally benevolent. He delineates between those things that we have power over and those things the universe has power over. At any moment in our lives, we have control over countless things including our thoughts, and that is enough. When we try to put energy into those things the universe has control over, it will backhand you and teach you otherwise. If you write a song, put all your energy in the emotion and the craft of writing that song. Spend no energy on how it will be received after that. That's the universe's job. It is none of your concern how the universe helps you. You just have to believe that the universe is moving on your behalf to let you grow and give you countless opportunities to do what you are doing. A person who concentrates on what they have power over becomes unlimited in their ability to manifest what they want in the world. The film, which he now solely owned, went on to make $98 million worldwide. He used those profits to self-finance his next film, which made $298 million worldwide. This fundamental belief in the universe's benevolence doesn't mean that we won't be discussing marketing in depth. We don't put products out into the world and wish for the best. But I want you to recognize the tremendous power in combining hard work and diligence with the faith that there is an invisible force ready to lift us up and guide us with its wisdom.
