Evan and Tiki with Sean Morash. We now live in the George Lombard Jr. universe, called up by the Yankees, a very successful major league debut. Yankees are going to try to win their series tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets are playing baseball, but no one's paying attention. In fact, the only thing coming out of Met Games, and I will be your ears, I will do it for you, is what Keith Hernandez says. Because I tweeted last night, and I didn't offer any specifics. Keith Hernandez is having a Hall of Fame broadcast. And for those that watched, you know. And for those who didn't, you probably did research to figure out why.
So, do you know what Keith pulled last night? I do not, tell me. Let's start off with the opening part of the broadcast. Right? The Mets are going on the air following the trade deadline.
What do these games mean? Not really much, if you're a diehard fan, you're still watching. Gary Cohn is of course talking about all the moves that were made. Listen to what Keith Hernandez said. Again, this is the very beginning of last night's Mets broadcast.

**Gary Cohn** (1:00)
So much has changed since we last saw you. A quarter of the Mets roster has been turned over. Players gone, 11 newcomers in the minor leagues now, and the Mets get to start the last part of their season with a very different look.

**Keith Hernandez** (1:14)
Well, they definitely shuffled, brought in the truck and took out all the garbage, so to speak.

**Ryan Ruocco** (1:21)
Wow.

**Evan Roberts** (1:22)
He called the players that they traded, all pretty good, by the way, garbage. Now, I want you to hear the foot, like, the extended cut of this, because you're going to hear him call him garbage again, and you will hear that that clearly got to Keith Hernandez's head, because it screwed up everything else he went on to say in this opening statement of the Met game.

**Keith Hernandez** (1:41)
Definitely shuffled, brought in the truck and took out all the garbage, so to speak. But this is a turnaround for this club. It's a new phase of the Met's broadcast, not the broadcast, but a new phase of this Met season and Met future. Obviously, Plan A did not work out. It's got a lot of young players here. It's a look to the future.

**Gary Cohn** (2:05)
Like it or not, the broadcast is staying the same.

**Evan Roberts** (2:08)
You could tell Keith was completely rattled. Now, this happens. It's the opening part of the broadcast, which I have to admit, usually I skip because I'm behind on DVR.
The game is now about to start, so it's about eight minutes later. And Keith Hernandez says, I need to address this garbage thing.

And can I say something?

**Gary Cohn** (2:26)
Well, you have a microphone, that means you can say whatever you want.

**Keith Hernandez** (2:29)
In that open, I said, got out the garbage. That's a poor choice of word, folks. I don't want these guys beating me up.
They got rid of some very, very good players.

**Gary Cohn** (2:38)
Well, it's really half of their terrific bullpen. Campillo's first pitch misses low to AJ Ewing and we're underway.

**Keith Hernandez** (2:44)
I can't believe that that word came out of my mouth, so my apologies.

**Tiki Barber** (2:48)
Hey, at least you walked him back.

**Evan Roberts** (2:49)
Do you think someone got to him or do you think he knew?

**Tiki Barber** (2:51)
I think he knew.

**Gary Cohn** (2:52)
I think you knew too.

Because you start thinking about, well, Luke Weaver is not garbage.

**Evan Roberts** (2:55)
None of them are garbage.

**Tiki Barber** (2:57)
AJ Minter is not garbage, even though I didn't pitch a ton. Brooks Radley is not garbage.

**Evan Roberts** (3:00)
They actually kept the garbage, Keith. I'm not going to name any names, Luis Robert Jr. But, and look, truthfully.

He's the fourth outfitter. He serves a purpose.

**Evan Roberts** (3:09)
And jokes aside, no one's garbage. You make the major leagues, you're not garbage.

No, you're right. So Keith was frustrated like every other Mets fan.

I think he was just, I don't even know if he was frustrated. I think he was just confused.

**Tiki Barber** (3:21)
No, no, no. When he said it, not when he walked it back.

**Evan Roberts** (3:23)
Oh, you think when he said it, he was?

**Tiki Barber** (3:24)
He was just frustrated.
