Best of the Yankees on WFAN: Does Aaron Boone get too much hate?

Aaron Boone, who just a couple of days ago, I was looking up the odds to be manager of the year, because I thought it should be higher than it was because of all the injuries, the fact that the team has still played well, but I guess nobody cares about that or pays attention to that. Of course, takes out Cam Schlitler, and whether you agree or disagree with the move, the fact that he gets pounded in the way that he does, because the bullpen does not get the job done and we end up losing an extra innings, by the way, because of a dumbass Ali Sanchez throw, which was just, I mean, it was stupid.
That would have been on the This Week in Baseball bloopers back in 1986, right? But, and then he just boons an idiot, fire Boone. I mean, I even, I got into the car, the first thing that Gordon Dahmer says, we'll get back to all the Cole's hammer and Aaron Boone, but I wanted to tell this story. I'm like, why can nobody give him credit for this? For what the team is doing? Not a single peep. Did we get it? I mean, we've talked about the Yankees. We've talked, you've played every Yankee highlight. We've taken Yankee calls. I can't, I listened to the radio station.
Nobody calls up to give him credit, but today you're going to hear it. Oh, this guy, he's the worst. They're never going to win a World Series with Aaron Boone. He's doing this whole thing again. And then the other problem that I have is nobody is ever consistent about this stuff because then they'll also say, it's the damn analytics that are ruin the game, but then they'll blame Aaron Boone solely for taking out Cam Schlitler early.

So what is it? Is it the analytics upstairs or is it Aaron Boone?

So there's a couple of things. Number one, there is one guy that's consistent, that's Chris McMonigle, who does, C-Mac loves himself some Aaron Boone.

And I couldn't agree with you more. We blame the managers for everything.
You've got analytics playing a part in this crap. And I will always and I will continue to say the players are the ones at fault. The manager can only do so much. And now a Yankee fan is going to say, all right, well, how long are we supposed to sit here and stare at Aaron Boone? I don't know. How about, again, I love the guy. But if Aaron Judge, aside from last year when he did hit well in the postseason, might have had a couple of good post seasons. Maybe the Yankees would have won a World Series along the way.
There's not a whole lot you can do when your star player doesn't perform in October. So here's what I know. They win 90 to 100 games every single year. Every single year they're in the postseason. And if everything came together, they should win and have an opportunity to win every year. And I think you can pick apart things that Buck Showalter did when he was a manager with the Yankees or the Diamondbacks or the Mets or whatever. You can pick things apart from Tommy Lasorda back in the day. We watch it every day. They haven't won a World Series in 17 years. People are going to, not me, but people are going to get on them.

For the people that criticize baseball and managers and whatever that they don't like about their team, it just always goes back to the analytics conversation. And I know that this is a losing battle. I know this is a losing battle, but I would just like those who are always complaining about their team to be at least consistent in their argument. Because you can't call up and complain about how the general manager is meddling and there's a bunch of nerds with binders that are telling Aaron Boone what to do. And then when Aaron Boone goes out there and makes a decision, then all of a sudden it's Aaron Boone's fault. So make a decision, either that Aaron Boone has power and he's someone that is in control of these situations or he's not and you blame all the statistical stuff that he has at his disposal to make these decisions or it's somewhere in the middle. But you can't have it both ways. You can't complain about the numbers and the analytics geeks from Harvard ruining the game and then also take a sledgehammer to Aaron Boone every time he makes a decision. That doesn't work out.
