Craig Carton (0:00)

Joining us right now in his weekly spot on Wednesday, morning's two-time Super Bowl champ, one of the great giant legends walking around this earth right now in his castle in New Jersey, probably eating some steak nuggets from Arby's.

Chris McMonigle (0:17)

Is Phil Simms?

Gio Eckert (0:19)

What's going on, Phil?

Al Dukes (0:20)

Good morning.

Phil Simms (0:21)

Hey, hey, hey, hey, listen. How long's it been since I've been on? About a couple years, right?

Gio Eckert (0:27)

Well, you were on last week.

Phil Simms (0:29)

Well, I'm talking about on the phone.

Gio Eckert (0:31)

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Al Dukes (0:31)

Two years, two years, yeah.

Phil Simms (0:34)

Yeah. Okay. So I appreciate you thinking of me. Finally, two years later, you called me. Good.

Gio Eckert (0:38)

Oh, give us a break.

Craig Carton (0:42)

I tried so hard last year to get you back on and it wasn't happening. And you're popping up all over the place and different radio stations. I don't want to hear it.

Gio Eckert (0:49)

Yeah, we don't want to hear that nonsense.

Phil Simms (0:51)

Hold on. Hold on. I looked it up. Al didn't call me one time last year. So there you go.

Craig Carton (0:57)

So you're telling me.

Phil Simms (0:57)

The other thing is, hold on, Gio. Yeah. You know, you're sitting next to George Hamilton over there with the tan.

And if he unbuttons one more damn button, he's Hugh Hefner.

Gio Eckert (1:09)

So watch this.

Phil Simms (1:12)

Boomer, why don't you just open your shirt up and put it down to your belly button. I'm going to see that big jelly roll you got going on.

Gio Eckert (1:21)

Oh man, somebody's on fire this morning.

Phil Simms (1:23)

Hold on, but here's one thing I need to figure out. Like an idiot waiting to go on for an hour.

Gio Eckert (1:30)

Well, you can't just tell us when you're coming on. You got to listen to us when we tell you to come on. That's when you come on.

Phil Simms (1:39)

Well, come on.

Craig Carton (1:40)

All right, so, all right. So here's one of-

Phil Simms (1:41)

I don't know what the hell you just said, but it sounded good.

So, it's good. You know, listen, I really, I really appreciate you having me on. And I just got it. My first thought is, you know, I know it's tough for you guys down there. You know, the Mets don't win. You got to have the Yankees win and the Giants and Jets, but wow, everybody's got to be so impressed with their team and how they played this past weekend. It was, it wasn't like they tricked the other team. They just beat them down. Yeah. And it was fun to watch.

Craig Carton (2:13)

And before we get into all of that, there's one thing I have to get to the bottom of though. Either you are not being truthful about Al calling you or every time Boomer asked Al to call you, he didn't. So one of those two things is going on.

Al Dukes (2:26)

So it could be a technicality because when Boomer would say, call Phil, I would text them first and say, and then he, I just wouldn't get an answer.

John Harbaugh (2:35)

So technically, I didn't call.

Phil Simms (2:37)

Did you do that once or twice? Come on, and first off, yeah, I might not be around when you decide to try to bring me on or whatever. So Al, we're all blaming you, you're still thinking about that 5.3 show you do, I don't know what to do.

Al Dukes (2:55)

5 a.m., straight up 5 a.m., 5 to 6

Gio Eckert (2:57)

5 to 6

Phil Simms (2:58)

Oh, okay, you guys can tell me, I'll get up tomorrow and watch it.

Chris McMonigle (3:01)

All right, so let's get to some football.

Gio Eckert (3:03)

Let me ask you about your first impressions. Obviously, we all have our impressions of the Giants, the way that they ended the game against the Cowboys, and just, when you were in here last week, we were talking about what John Harbaugh was trying to do with the New York Giants, making them bigger, making them more physical, and really raising the competitive level of the entire franchise. And I think that's exactly what we saw Sunday night. What do you think?

Phil Simms (3:30)

Oh, well, you hit it all. It was spectacular. It really was. And, you know, I'm thinking about this. Why did certain teams play well in their first game out? And, you know, the Giants and Jets both looked like they were ready to go.
