Real quick, just a quick giant thing, because, you know, football is very alive and well. Obviously, the Giants are tied for first place after the Philadelphia Eagles took one on the chin last night to the Chicago Bears and Case Keenan, which shows you again the importance of backup quarterbacks. And if you have a competent veteran backup, or in this case, the third string quarterback, and a coach that knows how to call a game based on the skills of that quarterback, you can stay relevant, you can win football games, which of course is what the Giants are hoping to get out of Jameis Winston. Now, eventually, not this week, but maybe two weeks from now. And beyond that, JJ. McCarthy is the guy who's played 10 games in the NFL, but they cut Odell Beckham Jr. today. They cut Odell Beckham. What I'm trying to look, it's not a big story because Odell Beckham. He didn't play. I think he had three snaps on Sunday and three snaps on Sunday before that. And I think 11 total snaps before that. So what I'm trying to figure out is, number one, why did they put him on the initial roster if they never had any plans to actually play the guy?
Because it's not like they have the greatest wide receiving corps of all time. Not at all. They don't. All right. Put that back red for him out there. All right. They don't. Is that in front of my mouth? And they never gave him a chance to play. No. Now, I'm not saying Odell Beckham is going to get picked up. Maybe he will. Maybe he won't. Or that his career is not over. But it was weird to me that he made the roster.
They never threw a ball his way. His stats for the year are 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0,
0, 0, 0,
Chris McMonigle (1:30)
Just like your bank account.
Craig Carton (1:32)
Exactly. Sadly. Except there's a minus in front of mine.
Chris McMonigle (1:34)
There's a 1 at the beginning of all this.
Craig Carton (1:36)
But the reality is that his best thing he did this year was pregame warm-ups. They never considered him an option to throw him the football. Now, I'm not sure if that's because it's Jameis Winston and not Jaxson.
But the reality is this. The Odell Beckham Jr. experiment was a failure. And now he's gone. But it almost doesn't matter. And here's why. Because when you all woke up today, when you woke up today, you woke up to a football team in first place. The Eagles are not the dominant force we thought they'd be. Their offense stinks. Washington doesn't have a quarterback. Give Marcus Marriott a credit. Scored 36 points, whoever was, against Seattle this past weekend. And had a pick six there as well. And obviously, the Dallas Cowboys are here to beat them. So the season's still over for the Giants, big picture-wise. Oh, there you go. But I want to say this to my giant fan brethren, who I'm beloved amongst you people. I just call it the way I see it, and that's why you love me so much.
The New York Giants have a chance to be the worst team to ever win a division.
Stop. That's on the table. Yeah. That's on the table. That's not on the table. They could be the worst of it. Like, Jacksonville Jaguars-esque.
Chris McMonigle (2:55)
The Eagles haven't played well. They're 2-1.
Craig Carton (2:58)
I know.
Chris McMonigle (2:58)
Like, they haven't even played well yet at all.
Evan Rosenberg (3:00)
I don't know if they're ever going to play well. I don't know if they're ever going to play well.
Chris McMonigle (3:02)
Or maybe they'll figure it out in talent.
Evan Rosenberg (3:04)
But I tried to put it out there for you guys.
Craig Carton (3:06)
The Giants right now are a first-place football team. Yeah. By the way, when's the last time you could say that? Three weeks into a season. A long time. So again, it's small little things. It's not going to equate to a Super Bowl. But I always tell you this. You have to acknowledge the odds. I'm very consistent about this. You have to, because what I'm going to say is, you're right, Craig, you're always consistent about that.
You have to enjoy it in the moment.
If you wake up in late November and the Giants are three games under 500, that's going to suck, obviously.
Right now, you're two and one. You're in first place. And the division doesn't look as daunting as it did three weeks ago. The Eagles we thought were going to be powerhouses. The Cowboys I thought might go to a Super Bowl. And right now, you're in the mix with all of them. And that, my friends, has to make you somewhat happy. And you have to enjoy it in the moment.
