The Vikings are trading JJ. McCarthy to the Giants for a 2027 fifth-round pick. McCarthy, who's only 23 years of age, it was a 10th overall pick in 2024 10 starts, he's 6-4. 58% completion, 1,632 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, 12 interceptions, four rushing touchdowns with a QBR of a little under 36

John Harbaugh told reporters today that James Winston would remain the team starters, even if McCarthy on the roster. Thoughts on the Vikings giving up on McCarthy?

Chad Johnson (0:39)

What you mean thoughts on it?

Shannon Sharpe (0:40)

What you thought was gonna happen?

Chad Johnson (0:41)

I'm not gonna joke. What you thought? I knew it.

Shannon Sharpe (0:45)

I thought they were gonna trade him earlier, Ocho. I thought they were gonna release him or trade him earlier.

Chad Johnson (0:48)

Yeah, we talked about that too, but obviously when the opportunity opened itself, I mean, listen, the change in scenery might help. It might help, but how the change in scenery gonna help, especially going to the Giants, when you had a scenery, a really good scenery over there in Minnesota. Uncle Joey don't get no better than having one of the best receivers, top two, top one, I mean, depending on who you ask, one of the best ever to play in the game on a historical run since his rookie season in Jettas, and you can't get it done with him. You got Amrin Jones in the backfield. You got Jordan Addison.

You got Hodgkinson. What are we talking about?

Shannon Sharpe (1:27)

You can't stay healthy, Ocho. What are you going to do in New York?

Chad Johnson (1:32)

It's not like that...

I'm not talking about nobody in New York. I'm just saying it's not like they have the same supporting cast over there, as opposed to what they have in Minnesota. It's a different ball game. Now, if you go to Minnesota, and let's say, James Winston happens to get hurt. Now, you got to raise your level of play exponentially. I can't spell it, but I know how to say it. And I know in the sitting structure that I'm using it, you know, in context, I'm right.

You got to raise your level of play. If you were slull with the Vikings, what did you think you were going to be with the Giants?

Shannon Sharpe (2:07)

I'm not surprised they traded him. I am surprised they traded him, because they already got another quarterback, young quarterback on the roster that they actually believe in.

I guess, Ocho, when you look at it, you're talking about the guy that was 10th pick in the draft in 24, and we get him for a fifth round pick in 26 That just goes to show you how his value has dropped. It goes to show you what other people think about him around the league. For a 10th pick in the draft, the 10th, number 10 overall pick just three years ago, and this is what he goes for today.

Chad Johnson (2:39)

Hey, that's the Scouts' fault. That's the Scouts' fault. That's the GM's fault.

You watch Michigan all season long, Joe.

Shannon Sharpe (2:47)

You hear me?

Chad Johnson (2:49)

They hand the ball off every game 235 times.

235 times. Occasional play action. And of course, it's easy to hit those play action passes because they wide open because everybody's sucking up with the run with the play action faith.

Shannon Sharpe (3:02)

Yeah.

Chad Johnson (3:03)

So, you know, that's fool's gold. You didn't fool everybody.

Shannon Sharpe (3:06)

Hey, hey, experience is the best teacher, fellas.

SPEAKER_4 (3:10)

JJ.

Shannon Sharpe (3:10)

McCarthy's been through a little something, something. You know, maybe he can learn from those experiences and take it to New York, bro, and be a better quarterback, be a better player.

SPEAKER_4 (3:18)

You never know.

Shannon Sharpe (3:19)

They got it. You got to give them an opportunity. I feel like for the I feel like for the Giants, I feel like for the Giants, this is pretty safe. OK, Ocho, you ain't going to have no riffraff and having to play them right away. You know what I mean? And then guess what? When Jackson Dart do get healthy, you ain't going to have no problem pushing to the side.

SPEAKER_4 (3:37)

You know what I mean?

Shannon Sharpe (3:38)

Versus if you go out there and get another quarterback who, hell, the fans rally around, it's going to be hard to get rid of him if he come in there and play with you.

SPEAKER_4 (3:44)

You feel what I'm saying?

Shannon Sharpe (3:45)

Yeah, but let me ask you a question, Joe. What you going to do? So next year, what you going to do? You got two young quarterbacks. You got one 23 on the roster, the other's 23 on the roster. So now what?
