The Eagles are sending two-time Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Ravens in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick. The deal makes sense on paper for the Ravens struggling to keep centers healthy after loser Tyler Lindenbaum in free agency. Jurgens has taken criticism for his bad play this season after shifting the left guard following Landon Dickerson's replacement who placed on Ender Reserve, a position that he had zero prior experience playing. Guys, Joe, we're going to throw it to you first. Did the Eagles make a mistake training a Pro Bowl player that's just out of position?
Chad Johnson (1:00)
Go ahead, Joe, you got it.
Shannon Sharpe (1:01)
Honestly, I'm not sure I got Ocho.
I mean, obviously he must have wasn't that valuable for the Eagles for them to get rid of him. What did they get in return? They got him and a 20-27th fifth round pick, but in 28, they get a second round pick. Oh yeah, they probably ain't see no value in it. For them to get rid of a Pro Bowl player like this, I mean, other than that, what are the reasons?
Through the first four games this season, Jurgens has graded 39.2 in a Pro Football Focus grade. The Rich ranks him 71st out of 72 qualified offensive guards against the Rams in particular. He was the lowest graded offensive lineman across the entire NFL. Now mind you, that'll be like, Ocho, let me ask you a question. They ask you, say, Ocho, we want you to play, we're going to move you to tight end. And then it's like, and then they come up and say, well damn, Ocho, well, you getting killed. You're like, I ain't never played tight end before. Hey, it ain't like he's going from, he's going from a Z, from X to Z. He's going from a center to a card that's totally different. And a lot of times, guard you on an island. At least that center, the guard is going to help you or you're going to help one of the guards.
Why they move them to that position? Landon Dickerson, who's the all pro and pro bowl guard, he's injured. So they felt they could put somebody else in there and try to get, you're trying to get my five best linemen on the field. That's what I'm trying to do. And unfortunately for him, he's one of the five best linemen, but he's one of the five best linemen that's never played left guard. So now you're playing him out of position and you wonder why, and fans are wondering why he's struggling. Excuse me. He did struggle, excuse me, again, last year at the center position, but he was hurt. Now he's finally like, I'm finally healthy, and now you're playing me out of position and you wonder why I'm looking bad.
Brian Robinson Jr. (3:03)
It's hard to change position.
Shannon Sharpe (3:05)
It's hard to, I don't care who you are. You take a right guard and you take a right tackle and put him at left tackle. And you see how them guys were going around Peney Sewell at first.
Brian Robinson Jr. (3:15)
Yes, sir.
Shannon Sharpe (3:16)
It ain't, it's not easy to switch positions. There's a reason why, hey, I wouldn't even think about, I wouldn't think about putting Lane Johnson, who retired for reasons. I wouldn't put Lane Johnson in the left tackle. He's not been a left tackle. He's a right tackle. It's the same way you put Big Trent at right guard, you put them at right tackle. No. You're going against the best of the best.
You might be the best at the best at one position. When you start moving, now all of a sudden, you're just a guy over there. Right.
Chad Johnson (3:51)
Yeah. The funny thing about it too is, I heard when the trade happened, I saw it on Twitter, obviously.
My first thought was, when it comes to decision making, when it comes to two people who have made the right decisions over an extended period of time, we're always strategic and methodical about everything they've done and they've done it for a reason, I would never question Jeffrey Louvery or Howie Roosman. Those are two that you just don't question on the decisions that they do make when it comes to in trying to improve their team, especially giving away what we thought are many viewed as a value or an asset. Obviously, I don't know much about the office of my position now, being that I'm not playing anymore, but obviously, a Pro Bowl player go of that caliber. Obviously, he's not the same. They don't do the same because they viewed him the same. There's no way they would let him go, especially with the injury issues that the Eagles have had with their office line. Even still to this year, would it only be in week four? They haven't had a very good running game.
