Hey, everyone, welcome to Siftd's Best of E3 2017 Awards, right here on sifted.net. How are you feeling, Matt?

Matt (0:25)

A little worn out.

Ben (0:27)

Yeah, I'm a lot worn out, boy.

Matt (0:30)

It was a hard show this year.

Ben (0:31)

Yeah, I finally got seven hours of sleep last night. And then that's why the show ended up starting late.

Our apologies to those of you on the livestream, it started a little bit late, but I had to get a couple extra hours. I came in for that Nintendo thing early in that morning. I was like a zombie, literally like a zombie. I don't even know how I got through it. And then we did the master stream after that for like three hours. And then I went to the show floor. Wow, it's been a crazy week.

I really hope that they reconsider starting E3 the prior Saturday.

Matt (1:06)

Yeah, it was a little much.

Ben (1:07)

It's too much. Like I saw an editorial, I think it was by Eurogamer, where it talked about how there was nothing left at the show.

I mean, I disagree with that, because what we saw a lot in the press conferences was a trailer. And then at the show, they would go on people's stages and do live streams with like the gameplay. So I still think there's a lot of value in the show there.

Matt (1:30)

Definitely value in the show. But I do think like, if you watch the press conferences, and then you watch the individual company's live streams, and a lot of the outlets as well, but especially like the individual company, like the Treehouse and Sony's live, like I feel like you get about as much as someone who went there and did it themselves, and you didn't have to kill yourself doing it. Like it was, the coverage has gotten so good, and like the companies have gotten so comfortable with doing it that way, that a lot of times on those streams, you see what was shown in the theater, people waited four hours. And it's a different thing to see it played in front of you, obviously. But like, I feel like, you know, for all the hype over the public getting into E3, I feel like the people at home get a real good E3.

Ben (2:16)

Oh, they certainly do. The other thing I would say too, is that I found, particularly this year, and it was kind of warming up to this last year, was that the best stream is Sony Stream.

Matt (2:29)

Sony's really good at it.

Ben (2:31)

One, the quality is impeccable. Two, the talent that they get on their stage is amazing. Like, they talk about a game, and they'll have like three or four guys from the game on there. They did a really good VR panel with like five or six luminaries from VR.

Matt (2:42)

And they have everything.

Ben (2:44)

Yeah.

Matt (2:44)

They put every game you can think of on, even like the minor more like...

Ben (2:48)

The indie stuff. And the other thing I would say too is, years prior, maybe I would lean towards an IGN or a GameSpot stream because of the editorial aspect of it. But you watch like Sony Stream, and Sid Schuman is great. Like, he asked really good questions.

And I don't feel like I'm watching a stream from an official publisher. I feel like I'm watching a stream from an editorial outlet.

Matt (3:16)

I kept being reminded of watching. I was like, oh yeah, that's how G4 did it.

It felt like the way we tried to make the old live show.

Ben (3:24)

Well, the other thing too is because it's Sony, it gets first dibs. So like on day one, we were doing the master stream. I kept asking people on the stream, do you want us to switch to another stream? Is there another stream that you guys are watching that you want us to switch to?

Never.

We just basically went between Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, and that was pretty much it. And they had all the best stuff on day one. They got all the first party stuff.

Matt (3:47)

Microsoft also solid stream done by a lot of XG4 people.

Ben (3:50)

Yeah, and it was only like four hours long though, for whatever reason, it was shorter. But I mean, Nintendo, if you care about Nintendo stuff, there's no reason to watch any stream but Nintendo's.

Because Nintendo didn't really take its first party stuff to the other stages until it had already done it on the Treehouse Live.
