An episode of the summer series presenting Charles Boyer, starring the renowned actor Charles Boyer. From 72 years ago, September 28, 1950, episode entitled The Clock. And we thank you for joining us on this Wednesday. And you know what that means. This is the 28th day of September, 271st day of the year and 94 days remaining in the year. Samuel Huntington, elected president of the Continental Congress on this date in 1779 American forces, backed by a French fleet, began the siege of Yorktown, Virginia during the American Revolutionary War. In 1787, the newly completed Constitution voted on by Congress to be sent to the state's legislatures for approval.

Warsaw surrendered to Nazi Germany during World War II on this date in 1939 Germany and the Soviet Union agreed on a division of Poland after their invasion. In 1973, the ITT building in New York City was bombed to protest ITT's involvement in the September 11, 1973 coup d'etat in Chile.

In 1987, the encounter at Farpoint, the first episode of Star Trek, The Next Generation aired in 1987 In 1995, lead OJ. Simpson, defense attorney Johnny Cochran argued to the jury his client was framed by the former police detective using a now famous line.

SPEAKER_10 (2:52)

If it doesn't fit, you must acquit.

Wyatt Cox (2:54)

Cochran implored the jurors to disregard the prosecutor's contention that Mark Furman, who made racist statements, is not important to the case.

SPEAKER_10 (3:03)

In 1985, Mark Furman responded to a call on Rockingham.

Mark Furman is a lying, perjuring, genocidal racist. And from that moment on, anytime he could get OJ. Simpson, he would do it.

Wyatt Cox (3:24)

Simpson would be criminally acquitted in the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

And it was in 2008, Elon Musk's SpaceX launched the first private spacecraft, the Falcon 1, into orbit. Passing away on this date in history, let's see, Roman Emperor Henry VI, also Herman Melville, the novelist, Moby Dick fame, French scientist Louis Pasteur, astronomer Edwin Hubble, comedian actor Harpo Marx, comedian, or rather, I should say, Pope John Paul I, passing away on this date. And that began a mess. Charles Adams, the cartoonist, creator of the Adams family. Miles Davis, the trumpeter, Althea Gibson, the tennis player. And Shimon Peres, former prime minister and president of Israel, and the president of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos.

SPEAKER_11 (4:20)

I'd like to go back to the Philippines and stay in my part of the country and live a person's life.

Wyatt Cox (4:28)

Marcos had looted the treasury and had taken a lot of money that wasn't his. Meanwhile, much of his country remained in poverty.

Marcos' son has been elected president there. And let's see what happens, shall we? Ferdinand Marcos passing away in exile in Honolulu on this date in 1989 Born on this date in history, Ed Sullivan.

SPEAKER_12 (4:59)

And now, live from New York.

SPEAKER_6 (5:01)

Three, two, one.

SPEAKER_10 (5:06)

Now, we got a real big show.

SPEAKER_5 (5:08)

Now, here is Elvis Franklin.

Wyatt Cox (5:12)

The Beatles.

SPEAKER_8 (5:15)

Judy Garland. Marlboro Spicers.

SPEAKER_5 (5:19)

The Muppets.

SPEAKER_8 (5:21)

The Rolling Stones.

SPEAKER_13 (5:23)

Carol Burnett.

Wyatt Cox (5:54)

The show aired for over 20 years, many consider it the last great American television show. Ed Sullivan, born on this date in history, as was Confucius, Michelangelo, William S. Paley, Boxer Mac Schmeling, cartoonist Al Cap, the creator of Little Abner, Ethel Rosenberg, one of the spies that we've told you about, Audrey Wilson, the mother of the three founding members of the Beach Boys, actor Arnold Stang, actor William Wyndham, actor Marcello Mastriani, the very, very funny Jerry Clower, Rod Roddy, fine television announcer as well. Probably, I would consider him second only to Johnny Olsen.
