Well, earlier this week, we brought you a Phillips H. Lord's program called Counter-Spy. Now we're going to present a program that basically was the kickoff to all of Phillips H. Lord's big shows, an episode of Gangbusters going back 77 years to September 13, 1945
And this is the case of Harry Red Bever. And we thank you for tuning in. On this sure happy, it's Thursday, 15th day of September, 258th day of the year, 107 days remaining. I stand here today to say that we owe it to hockey's fans to achieve an economic system that will result in affordable ticket prices and stable competitive franchises.
The very future of our game is at stake and the NHL's owners are united as never before, determined to do everything humanly possible to bring hockey's economic system into the 21st century. We have no other choice.
Wyatt Cox (3:26)
National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman, the third of four strikes or lockouts, whatever you want to call them, they essentially accomplished the same thing. The 2004-2005 season was ultimately canceled. After the one that would follow this, hockey never recovered and is to these days considered a tertiary professional sport. In 2008, Lehman Brothers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the largest bankruptcy filing in US history. Among those passing away on this date in history, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, Abraham Clarke, German aircraft designer Willie Messerschmitt, jazz pianist Bill Evans, Johnny Ramone of The Ramones, Brett Summers, you know her all over talk shows. She was an actress, but she was mostly on the match game. I think she was on almost every episode of the old match game.
Sven Gulli, Jerry G. Bishop passing away on this date in history, Harry Dean Stanton passing away and the cars, Rick Okesik passing away on this date. This is the birthdate of author and monologist Robert Benshley.

I am confident that we may safely say at the present time that the depression is over and that vis-a-visness conditions are just around the corner. When I say just around the corner, I mean just around the corner.
Now, what were the primary causes of the depression, as we called it? Overproduction, maladjustments in goal distribution, overproduction, deflation, too little thyroid secretion or Platt's disease, too much vermo, overproduction, and by the same token, underproduction. Then too, there was the Gulf Stream.
Wyatt Cox (5:34)
A funny man, you know, he wasn't great in delivery there, but he was funny and did do quite the monologue. Robert Benchley, born on this date in history, writer Agatha Christie, musician Roy Acuff, actress Faye Ray, Penny Singleton, Blondie.
SPEAKER_11 (5:55)
You ought to do something about him, Blondie. Did you hear me?
Wyatt Cox (5:59)
Yes.
SPEAKER_11 (6:00)
Are you going to do something about him?
SPEAKER_13 (6:02)
Of course, dear. I saw Laura today.
