When you are pioneering anything or introducing new ideas to the culture, you get criticized.
Gwyneth Paltrow (1:20)
You do?
Benny Blanco (1:21)
Yeah.
SPEAKER_3 (1:21)
Did you hear about that? I didn't find the one.
SPEAKER_4 (1:25)
I found someone I respected and we made it the one.
SPEAKER_5 (1:28)
In a sort of longing kind of view of love, people understand each other as if by magic.
SPEAKER_3 (1:33)
Nothing in itself is addictive on the one hand, and on the other hand, everything could be addictive if there's an emptiness in that person that needs to be filled.
SPEAKER_4 (1:41)
I now know that nobody changes until they change their energy. And when you change your energy, you change your life.

I'm Gwyneth Paltrow. This is the goop podcast, bringing together thought leaders, culture changers, creatives, founders and CEOs, scientists, doctors, healers and seekers here to start conversations because simply asking questions and listening has the power to change the way we see the world.
Hello and welcome to the goop podcast. I'm Gwyneth Paltrow. I'm so excited for you to join me for a live conversation with Benny Blanco, producer, musician, author, and all-around great guy. We talk about so many things, including how he went from playing music in frat houses to producing for stars like Ed Sheeran, and making his own hit album, his new book, Fuck Failure, and what he's learned about success and tuning out the noise. And he also gave me some really good ideas about what to do with my goop kitchen leftovers. Let's get to my conversation with Benny Blanco.
My guest tonight is an extraordinary man. He is a Grammy nominated multi-platinum artist, record producer, songwriter, actor, and New York Times bestselling author. He's also my fellow foodie. Please welcome Benny Blanco.
Benny Blanco (3:12)
We hugged, we saw each other. We'll do it again.
Gwyneth Paltrow (3:14)
We'll do it again. Welcome, welcome.
Benny Blanco (3:16)
Am I on the microphone? You're on the mic.
Gwyneth Paltrow (3:19)
I don't know. We were double miced. Wait.
Benny Blanco (3:21)
Oh, we are?
Gwyneth Paltrow (3:21)
I guess.
SPEAKER_5 (3:23)
Wait, what were you talking about?
Benny Blanco (3:24)
Vitamin C?
Gwyneth Paltrow (3:25)
Oh.
Benny Blanco (3:26)
I want the free shit.
Gwyneth Paltrow (3:28)
You can have some gas. Our vitamin C serum, I'm going to give it to you on your way out.
Benny Blanco (3:32)
Do you know anytime I'm anywhere where there's like a, I don't like this thing. I got to move this a teeny bit. I want to look at you.
SPEAKER_3 (3:38)
We're getting professional. I want to look at you.
Gwyneth Paltrow (3:40)
Producer, okay.
Benny Blanco (3:41)
So I, anytime upstairs, there was a bag that said goop on it, and I immediately told my mom, I was like, grab every one of those bags, because I know there's something good in it. I know there's something good. Apparently, there's vitamin C serum.
SPEAKER_3 (3:57)
There is.
Gwyneth Paltrow (3:58)
And it's going to transform your whole vibe.
Benny Blanco (4:00)
Can I take this chair home? Absolutely.
SPEAKER_3 (4:02)
Okay, cool.
Benny Blanco (4:03)
All right, great. Great, great.
Gwyneth Paltrow (4:06)
I guess I wanted to start a little bit with what we touched on earlier. Benny signed his first record deal when he was 13 years old, and it became sort of the incredible force that he is by the time he was 18
So I would love to hear a little bit about your experience as a songwriter, as a musician. How, when did you know that you had this gift? And how does one get a record deal at 13 years old?
