You know, JJ, 4th of July is right around the corner, and I know you're a real smart eater, so are you even a hot dog guy?
JJ Zachariason (0:08)
Oh, look, everyone likes hot dogs, don't they? Everyone has to enjoy hot dogs to some degree. Now, how many hot dogs should you eat? That's the question. But yeah, everyone enjoys a hot dog.
Rich Ryan (0:18)
You're not gonna go Kobe Ashy on us? I'm a big, I'm a big, glizzy guy. Love a dirty water dog, love a sabret. If you put a ballpark on the grill, I'll be happy with it.
Again, yeah, like you said, I'm not too picky. What I will say, however, is that if you put ketchup on your hot dog, throw it out.
Okay? Ketchup doesn't belong anywhere near hot dogs. In fact, if you plan on doing that, just go warm up some dino nuggets because you are a child.
JJ Zachariason (0:47)
Start the show, get out of here. I'm JJ, and I've been playing in best ball leagues for years. But there are people out there who play a lot more than I do. And there are people out there who have won a lot more than I have. And I want to learn from them. This season, I'll be documenting my journey of Max entering Underdog's best ball mania contest. And I'll be doing so with guidance from some of the most successful best ball players on the planet.
This is the year where things start to change. This is the year where I officially become a best ball bro.
Welcome in to another episode of Becoming a Best Ball Bro. I'm JJ Zachariason, and as always, I am joined by my apparently ketchup-hating co-host, Rich Ryan. Rich, what's going on, buddy?
Rich Ryan (1:37)
I mean, it's just tomato and sugar. It's for children. Grow up, get some spicy mustard, people.
JJ Zachariason (1:43)
Look, I'll say this. I didn't really love ketchup growing up that much, which was kind of almost borderline illegal in the city of Pittsburgh, where Ryan's was created and headquartered.
But yeah, I mean, like, ketchup's good. I don't really eat that much ketchup in general these days, so I, you know, don't have that fire of a take. But to say that ketchup doesn't belong on hot dogs, it's a take, it's definitely a take.
Rich Ryan (2:09)
I mean, don't step foot in Chicago, JJ. That's all I'm saying.
JJ Zachariason (2:13)
Yeah, man, I definitely think that people are gonna disagree with that. Anyway, let's talk a little best ball, man.
Have you been doing some of the Puppy 2s? Did the Puppy 2 drop last week or two weeks ago?
Rich Ryan (2:27)
Right before record last week on day, it dropped. I had a wave of slow drafts end, close to two dozen. And then once those ended, I figured 20 is my comfort zone right now. So as soon as those ended, I regged 20 puppies. I think I got the second pick in like six of them.
So I was randomizing a bit between the receivers because I didn't just want to go CD every time. I did get CMC at one of them because CD did go with the 1.1. And with one of them, literally my first draft this whole summer, I went RBRB at the end of the first round. And like the avalanche that you incurred yesterday on Pete's stream, I am anticipating getting buried in the next couple of rounds.
JJ Zachariason (3:12)
Yeah, that was rough. I did a live stream over on Pete Overset's YouTube channel Overset on this show last week. And I did a BBM draft with him and we went Bijon at like 109, I think it was. That was the spot we were in. So he fell a little bit past ADP. And I'm very, very into, as I talked about last week, you know, and I'm still focusing on that now, very, very into getting sort of a hero RB type build right now, or at least not going super, super wide receiver heavy. And by that, I'm talking like, you know, six wide receivers through seven, even five wide receivers through six. I'm trying to avoid a little bit to get some of that differentiation. I talk about that with our guests later today.
And so going Bijon at 109, I'm like, sure, I'll do that. And I've been doing a lot of puppies. I am trying to, especially after talking to Herzig a couple of weeks ago, where Herzig said that he's only done one best ball mania draft, and it was at the very beginning of best ball mania and the start of best ball mania.
