JJ tells Rich -- and the world -- who his surprising top-drafted quarterbacks are, and the two chat a good bit about the running back dead zone. More importantly, Liam Murphy, a three-time best ball tournament winner, joins the show.

JJ Zachariason (0:02)

Hey Rich, have you ever seen the movie Homeward Bound?

Rich Ryan (0:04)

You know, I remember one of my teachers wheeling in the TV one day and showing us in us all be exciting, not knowing that we would be receiving trauma that I still carry to this day. What about you?

JJ Zachariason (0:16)

Yeah, yeah, I've seen it, of course. I showed my daughter Homeward Bound for the first time this past weekend, and I have a take.

Shadow, the golden retriever that everyone loves, the main character, if you will, in that movie, is by far the dumbest of the three animals that is in that movie. Shadow, the only reason why these animals are in danger is because Shadow put them in danger because he has the worst intuition of any animal I have ever seen in my life. I'm JJ, and I've been playing in best ball leagues for years, but there are people out there who play a lot more than I do, and there are people out there who have won a lot more than I have, and I want to learn from them. This season, I'll be documenting my journey of Max entering Underdog's best ball mania contest, and I'll be doing so with guidance from some of the most successful best ball players on the planet. This is the year where things start to change. And this is the year where I officially become a best ball bro.

Welcome in to another episode of Becoming a Best Ball Bro. I'm JJ Zachariason, who is Becoming a Best Ball Bro, joined, as always, by Rich Ryan. Rich, what's going on, buddy?

Rich Ryan (1:35)

I had to bro it up. I got to go backwards, snap back. We're getting into bro season, hard and heavy here, so I had to join.

Really, what it is is that my hair is in absolute catastrophe right now, so we're going hats up.

JJ Zachariason (1:51)

I feel that. I'm very jealous of people who can shower at night, go to bed, wake up the next day, and still be able to do their hair, because my hair will just be stuck the way that it looked in bed throughout the hopeful seven to eight hours of sleep that I get that night.

Rich Ryan (2:06)

Yeah, I believe it is intended for women, but it's like a non-frizz, because I have the thinnest hair possible, and yeah, if I do not apply that and step out into society, I look like an absolute disaster.

JJ Zachariason (2:19)

Interesting. Speaking of disaster, I drafted the worst best ball mania team known to man, literally an hour before we started to record. I set myself up. There's nothing more tilting with doing a best ball draft than when you go through the first four or five rounds of your draft, and you feel pretty good about the individual picks that you're getting, but there's just no correlation at all with those picks, and then you get into round six, and it's kind of still going on, and you can't quite, you know, you're getting sniped from these like game stack pieces, you know, like into round seven, round eight, and that kept happening for me, and then I'm like, okay, I'm gonna build some later round stacks, you know, I'll get like a Charger stack, I'll get Justin Herbert because I drafted Lad McConkey, Josh Palmer obviously gets drafted 30 picks before ADP, so I'm not able to get him for the stack, and then Justin Herbert gets drafted 20 picks ahead of ADP, so I can't get Justin Herbert, and then I'm like, okay, I'm gonna pivot, I'm gonna at least go with a Late-Round New England stack of some sort, but of course, I was able to get Drake May, and so I had some sort of New England Charger situation going on, but then I was like, I need a QB3, because Geno Smith was my other quarterback. Geno Smith, Drake May, I need a QB3. There's no way I can win anything with Drake May and Geno Smith. And I'm like, let's just take a chance. This team is absolute dog doo-doo right now. Let's just take a chance and say, I had Michael Pittman, I had drafted Devon Singletary for some Week 17 correlation. Why not go for Danny Dimes and pair him up with someone in the last rounds and maybe he can relive some of that rushing magic that we've seen in the past. And for whatever reason, Dimes gets drafted like two rounds ahead of ADP, so I couldn't even get him. My quarterbacks on this team are Geno Smith, Drake May and Bo Nix, Rich. I mean, it's disastrous. I posted it to the Late-Round Fantasy Football Discord because I need people to realize that, even though I'm becoming a best ball bro, I still have some pretty awful lineups. I'll bring it up right now.
