Rich, did you hear the news that dropped today?
Rich Ryan (0:02)
I did not. What's going on?
JJ Zachariason (0:05)
I guess that's a pretty open-ended question. But the news that I'm referring to is that Nintendo Switch is officially bringing back Perfect Dark, and they're doing it via online multiplayer. So if any of you guys are Nintendo 64 players and you once played Perfect Dark, you will be able to play Perfect Dark once you get on Nintendo Switch. And I figure this is the perfect time to bring up that Perfect Dark is just a better version of Goldeneye. I'm JJ, and I've been playing in best ball leagues for years, but there are people out there who play a lot more than I do, and there are people out there who have won a lot more than I have. And I want to learn from them. This season, I'll be documenting my journey of Max entering Underdog's best ball mania contest. And I'll be doing so with guidance from some of the most successful best ball players on the planet.
This is the year where things start to change. This is the year where I officially become a best ball bro.
Welcome in to another episode of Becoming a Best Ball Bro. I'm JJ Zachariason. I love Perfect Dark, and I am joined by my co-host, Rich Ryan. Rich, what's going on, buddy?
Rich Ryan (1:20)
You know, it's funny, you had Josh Norris on one of your first episodes of, I think it was Perspectives, it was Perspectives this summer, and he was talking about how he would sit and watch his brother play a lot of video games. And I had the exact same experience growing up, because I have one sibling, my older brother, he's five years older than me, and my job, JJ, no joke, was to sit and read through the manual and the tips and tricks, and to just tell him what to do. I was the offensive coordinator of him playing Banjo-Kazooie. That was my job.
JJ Zachariason (1:51)
So here's the thing, I have a brother who's six years older than me, or seven years older than me, like six and a half years older, and I would do the same thing, but he was a PlayStation guy, and so I would mostly do it for Tomb Raider and stuff like that, right? But then I was the N64 guy. He never really got into N64, so that was my thing. And so when it comes to gaming, especially retro gaming, anything Nintendo 64 related, I feel like I'm in the 98th percentile in terms of being good at the system, but also knowledge of that system. Other systems, I have an Xbox S right now.
People are so much better than me at gaming with other systems, but when it comes to Nintendo 64, Rich, that's my jam.
Rich Ryan (2:33)
Yeah, I had a suitemate, same thing, that on Mario Kart, he would just hop his way through Rainbow Road and people would bet him beers or whatever, and he would just wreck them every single time.
JJ Zachariason (2:44)
I won't throw out the take that Diddy Kong Racing is a better version of Mario Kart. That's not, look, I had this conversation with a buddy actually like two days ago, okay?
Perfect Dark is a literal enhanced version of GoldenEye. It's like, take the GoldenEye core game and just make it better.
Like, there's bots that you can play against in multiplayer mode. There's more maps, there's more guns. It's just a better version of that game. Whereas Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Kart 64, they're two very different, like gameplay wise, very, very different.
Rich Ryan (3:17)
Once you start bringing in the flying and stuff like that, things get a little weird.
JJ Zachariason (3:20)
Yeah. My take more so is that Diddy Kong Racing is underrated.
That's the take. It's not that, because I think Mario Kart 64 has stood the test of time very well. That you can still play that game and enjoy yourself, right? Try to play GoldenEye right now. It's horrible. GoldenEye is terrible right now. Mario Kart 64, you can still play. Diddy Kong Racing, you can still play.
And hopefully on the Switch, Perfect Dark, you'll still be able to play. Anyway, did you see The Puppy 2 dropped?
Rich Ryan (3:50)
I did. I got the head of product, I forget her name, but you put it in Discord last night as a teaser. And then yeah, launched today.
Yeah, I've got a deposit ready to go, and then I'm gonna fire a bunch of those. I've got, I think I have like a dozen slow drafts going right now. We'll probably add like 12 to 20 more.
