Be a Man by Macho Man Randy Savage
Is That a Joke?
November 25, 2022
Tiff and Chris visit a wonderful piece of art. This album is more genuine than we expected. Tiff loves this shit! Chris has a lot of info to help put this shit in perspective. This is one of those times where their different interests intersect.

All right, Tiffany, before we start the app, let's just do some of our quick vocal warmups.
Tiffany Flowers (0:04)
Oh my god, all right.
Chris Barfield (0:05)
All right, here I go, I'll start. Salamander, salamander, salamander, what a wonder.
Tiffany Flowers (0:14)
Okay, okay, I have mine.
Chris Barfield (0:16)
All right.
Tiffany Flowers (0:18)
Origami, origami, origami is my mommy.
Chris Barfield (0:24)
That's pretty good. Wait a minute, we're recording.
Stop, stop, stop. We gotta get out of here.
Tiffany Flowers (0:45)
No. Oh yeah, let's talk about this. I'm so excited to talk about this album.
I don't do a good impression of him, so I don't try. Oh yeah. I don't do a good impression of him.
Chris Barfield (0:57)
Who are you talking about?
Tiffany Flowers, yeah! Talking about Macho Man, Randy Savage.
Tiffany Flowers (1:07)
This album's called Be a Man and it's phenomenal.
Chris Barfield (1:11)
The classic 2003 Macho Man rap album.
Tiffany Flowers (1:16)
It is one of my favorite things I've experienced in a long time.
Chris Barfield (1:20)
Just a real weird novelty for wrestling fans, and luckily, also just a weird novelty for anyone who knows anything about the Macho Man, Randy Savage, even as far as to go the fact that he says, oh yeah.
Tiffany Flowers (1:32)
You mentioned this existed and I immediately hit play on the intro while we were together, and I was like, Chris, this is phenomenal.
Chris Barfield (1:40)
Yeah, God, the intro is something, isn't it?
Tiffany Flowers (1:43)
So like, we're not gonna go out song by song because fuck that noise for this, but I do wanna talk about the intro. Yes.
The intro is the same for people over and over, saying some of my favorite things that I've ever heard people just say in an intro.
Chris Barfield (1:58)
Yeah, well, I was gonna say, I think you wrote some notes specifically about what are the ones that stood out to you. I'll tell you right now, the biggest one to me was the lady talking about how hot and sexy this 50, at time 50-year-old man was and how she would jump him easily.
Tiffany Flowers (2:13)
Yeah, one of the ones I wrote down was her because she is obviously a very stereotypical black woman.
At one point, she says, girl, he looks good to be an old man. Like, that's how she talks the whole time.
Chris Barfield (2:27)
And listen, I'll say this. Macho Man was a very buff dude because he was a wrestler in a time where steroids and cocaine were big. He was a very muscular man. That said, I don't think I'd describe him as attractive. He had kind of a weird peanut head.
He always had a beard that was very short-shaven, like right to his face.
Tiffany Flowers (2:48)
Very weird facial hair choices.
Chris Barfield (2:50)
Yeah, kind of just a weird-looking dude, but perfect for a professional wrestler, you know? But I don't know if he looked that good for 50
Tiffany Flowers (2:58)
Another one I loved was, Macho Man is real big overseas. I hear he's the wrestling king.
It's just the same four people. I could, like they're saying, gossip. And the one I told you the other day, which is my ultimate favorite one, is I heard he's going to make a whack album, and I heard he's going to make a rap album, and it's going to be hot.
Chris Barfield (3:20)
Yeah. It's going to be hot is the thing.
Tiffany Flowers (3:24)
And that guy's got like a weird accent for that one.
Chris Barfield (3:26)
Yeah, he does.
I'll say this too. I did the tiniest bit of research when I was looking into it. And you will not be surprised, I guarantee, to learn that this actually was not Macho Man, Randy Savage's idea to make a rap album.
Tiffany Flowers (3:40)
Shocking.
Chris Barfield (3:41)
This 50-year-old white professional wrestler was in fact approached and said, hey, you have a peculiar way of speaking, would you like to make a rap album? And he was actually unsure at first from what I've read.
And they more or less had to dumb down every single song to match, and I'm quoting him directly, his white boy rhythm. Like, from all accounts, Randy Savage knew going into this was an uphill battle. But, and this is something I think...
Tiffany Flowers (4:10)
He's so genuine in it though.
Chris Barfield (4:11)
And that is exactly it. And I think something that a lot of people, us included, love about this album, is that you can hear the effort.
