Welcome back to the SENWA studio out here at Optus Stadium. Monday morning, Paul Heath is with me in the studio. Heata, how are you, mate?
Paul Heath (0:08)
Good, thank you. How was your weekend?
Mark Duffield (0:10)
Yes, good.
Paul Heath (0:11)
Good, yep. We both said quiet when you asked me before, which I thought was a bit sus.
Mark Duffield (0:15)
Good and quiet.
Paul Heath (0:15)
Yeah. But two people saying that are quite weekend. I'm 62 years old, quite as good.
Mark Duffield (0:22)
I didn't go to any parties with Colton players at the weekend, put it that way.
Paul Heath (0:25)
Good to turn down those invites.
Thanks to IMR, IMR Small Business Insurance Experts. You can call 1-3-IMR. It is time for the weekend review. And first off, let's have a check in with the Bathurst 1000
SPEAKER_3 (0:37)
There is one lap remaining of the Bathurst 1000
Anton DiPasquale is holding on to the lead, but it's now down to 1.6 seconds. Brody Kistecky is giving it one final push.
SPEAKER_4 (0:53)
Heading up, to give it spin, 80 is out, 80 is out.
SPEAKER_3 (0:58)
Kistecky takes the lead.
Brody Kistecky and DJR are in the lead of the race. Anton DiPasquale is out of fuel.
SPEAKER_4 (1:09)
What a moment. You cannot make this stuff up. This is just unbelievable.
SPEAKER_3 (1:15)
Lazarus is risen. Brody Kistecky has found a way out of trouble.
Brody Kistecky in the number 17, Dick Johnson racing Mustang, comes across the line and claims victory in the Bathurst 1000
Mark Duffield (1:37)
The last, so I sat and watched about the last hour with my dad at home, and it was real gripping drama. Like the sort of drama you get on the last nine holes of a US Masters or a close test match.
Because obviously it plays out over a long period of time, 161 laps of a truly great racing circuit, it must be said. And the history of the race, they mentioned Dick Johnson, the number 17 Of course, I remember Dick Johnson in The Green Machine, I think he was hit by a roux once. And then I think he was hit by a rock or something on another period of time. So a lot of things can happen on the mountain.
The poor bloke that made the miscalculation on fuel, Anthony Deepers-Guala. And the guy on the coverage, I can't remember who it was, but he did a great job interviewing him. And he's saying, is fuel a problem for you? No, no, no, fuels are all right, we're worried about tyres. Are you sure fuels are not a problem for you? No, no, all good, all good. And then about three laps later, it was like, you need to start saving fuel. And then you thought, oh, hang on. And then when the, of course, the thing that made it all possible probably was the safety car coming out. When Chad Mostert clipped the inside of the turn and just careered straight across the corner and hit the outside of the turn, the safety car comes out, which means the field compresses up and I think what was about a 10-second gap became a couple of seconds gap. And then Kosteki drove brilliantly to get into second place. And then, yeah, the rest is history. It'll be one remembered for a long period of time.
Kosteki's last 20-odd laps after that slow pit stop, which appeared to not just knock him out of the pole position to win, but looked like it was going to knock him off the podium. He drove absolutely brilliantly in that last 20 laps. So well-deserved win.
Paul Heath (3:45)
Love that. Another one from the weekend, the Might and Power Stakes on Saturday.
SPEAKER_5 (3:48)
Land legend 200 ago, a length Kingswood, then Birdman, now Shiza Alibi closing. Land legend 100 ago, still a length and a quarter, Kingswood, Shiza Alibi, stundering at Land legend. Is it going to be too late? Yes, it is. Land legend has won it from Shiza Alibi. They were followed by Birdman and Kingswood riding out third from Tresor at the moment, and Toranzino last.
Paul Heath (4:12)
I heard that a couple of times, and I still think Matt Hill went just the littlest bit early. Because Shiza Alibi is like lunging, and Land legend is just there, just getting through. But what a race. It wasn't, I think as far as they rank the runs of horses, Land legend had never run a race like this. It's gone out there and just led from the front the whole time, and just unbelievable to see it. But to see a horse just, there was about four of them sort of closing in right at the end and just holding on for long enough.
