Yeah, there we go!
A little OAR on a Wednesday, why not? 888-808-119. Ba-da-na-na-na-na-na-ow. Were you surprised, by the way, that the Mets ran so fast to make Andy Green the manager and didn't at least consider options or other people out there?
Chris McMonigle (0:27)
Yeah, we talked a little bit about that yesterday.
I am surprised, and again, that's not to say it's not a good hire. And clearly, the players love him. I think he really connected to the young players, and they expect to be a young team next year in many ways.
I think he's done a nice job. He's exactly at 500 since taking over.
I think he communicates really well, but I am surprised that the richest owner in the sport, who could write the biggest paycheck of anyone, didn't at least want to, now I'm sure behind the scenes, some communication, but there was no rush to hire him now. I appreciate the fact he changed his mind. Apparently, he had promised his kids that he wasn't going to do it until they graduated high school and that's like a year or two away, but he changed his mind. He's willing to be the manager and they rushed to sign him. I'm surprised.
Craig Carton (1:15)
I get it on his side because it pays more than what he was doing in the front office.
SPEAKER_3 (1:18)
Sure, and you get the answer again.
Chris McMonigle (1:20)
He was a manager prior to this.
Craig Carton (1:22)
I'm sure he enjoyed some love of the last three months.
Of course. I think he enjoyed it. I also think that this means that Juan Soto likes him.
Chris McMonigle (1:32)
I would think. Right? Juan Soto likes him. Lindor likes him. The kids like him.
I think the team really likes him.
SPEAKER_4 (1:38)
I like him too. I mean, I don't know.
Chris McMonigle (1:39)
Again, I want to make this clear. I am not saying it's a bad hire.
SPEAKER_4 (1:43)
What was the rush? He wasn't going to be there a month from now?
Chris McMonigle (1:47)
You didn't want to go through a full search to see someone knock your socks off?
Craig Carton (1:52)
I guess Steve Cohen is like, I just don't want to do it again.
Chris McMonigle (1:55)
I guess.
Craig Carton (1:55)
Right?
Chris McMonigle (1:56)
I don't know. He doesn't have no job to deserve it.
Craig Carton (1:58)
I bumped into Albert Pujols today.
Chris McMonigle (2:00)
You just bumped into him?
Craig Carton (2:01)
Yeah, I bumped into him today. Yeah.
I didn't get a chance to talk to him. We, you know, urinal, that kind of thing. And I'm not one of those. I'll talk to you in the elevator. But at the urinal, it's awkward. It's just awkward. Not as big as I would have thought. I guess he stopped doing, you know.
Chris McMonigle (2:16)
You sure it was him?
Craig Carton (2:17)
No, 100% it was him. He was talking to Kennedy.
Remember Kennedy from MTV? She's on The Five a lot on Fox News. She has a podcast called Kennedy Saves the World.
Chris McMonigle (2:28)
Yeah. So that was the bathroom. Not Kennedy.
Craig Carton (2:31)
She doesn't go to the men's bathroom.
Chris McMonigle (2:33)
You said you saw him at the urinal.
Craig Carton (2:34)
I saw Albert Pujols at the urinal. Yeah, at Fox.
Chris McMonigle (2:38)
Oh, okay. I'm confused.
Craig Carton (2:40)
He was there to take something with...
Chris McMonigle (2:42)
Okay.
Craig Carton (2:42)
The last I didn't know.
Chris McMonigle (2:43)
You had seen him previously with Kennedy. And so that's how you knew it was him at the urinal?
Craig Carton (2:48)
I'm at the urinal next to Albert Pujols today.
Chris McMonigle (2:51)
Okay.
Craig Carton (2:52)
But I didn't know it was Albert Pujols.
Chris McMonigle (2:53)
Oh, until after.
Craig Carton (2:54)
I come out of the urinal, washy, washy, dryy, dryy. I wouldn't have done that if not for Albert Pujols being there. Because, you know, I don't know, you have to always wash your hands all the time, but that's another story, right? Plus, I didn't touch anything. You know, I'm a free winger. That being said, seemed like a nice enough guy.
We didn't speak in the urinal.
We come out of the urinal, and there's like a posse, of like 12 people waiting for him outside of the bathroom. And I'm like, that's the guy I just took a leak next to. What's this all about? I don't have a posse. I don't have 12 people waiting for me to come out of the bathroom. And someone goes, that's Albert Pujols.
