We've got a special episode here today on Los Angeles Magazine, where we are collaborating with Beyond A Reasonable Doubt. So I have our friend, Mark Geragos with me. Hello, Mark.

**Mark Geragos** (1:16)
How are you, Lauren, and looking very relaxed after your weekend in the country or whatever you've done, right?

**Lauren Conlin** (1:24)
I was in New Hampshire this weekend, but Mark and I have been talking a lot about the Carmele Anthony murder trial.

**Mark Geragos** (1:33)
What am I, a lawyer who I will not publicly humiliate, when I asked her about the Carmele Anthony case, said, why does anybody care about the basketball player?

**Lauren Conlin** (1:46)
I knew that was coming. My husband said the same thing. I was like, no, it's like, no, I don't have time to think.

**Mark Geragos** (1:53)
I remember completely unrelated, but thinking because I'm sitting in New York and the Knicks or in the finals, I remember an evening when I was at a bar down and ran into Alex Spyro and then Carmelo joined us at the bar. And so all those memories have flooded in, but this Carmele Anthony, and I have a lot of theories on why this case has become such a internet sensation, not the least of which is it's the, it's George Zimmerman for the new age, but I will.

**Lauren Conlin** (2:33)
George Floyd, you mean? I mean, I guess you could say it's George Zimmerman.

**Mark Geragos** (2:36)
I thought it was George Zimmerman from 12 years ago.

**Lauren Conlin** (2:38)
That's the OG.

**Mark Geragos** (2:40)
The reason I thought about that is I saw Mark O'Meara commenting on it and made me think about it. So why don't you kind of give your summary, give your prosecution of a summary?

**Lauren Conlin** (2:52)
Let me give a summary for those who are unaware. Then when you talk about why you think it's a certain way, I have thoughts about that and why.

**Mark Geragos** (3:02)
You're so shy.
You're so shy like when you tweeted last week after Peterson, but he's still guilty. But by the way, as I mentioned to the crowd of 1,500 people, the worst demo for Scott Peterson was.

**Lauren Conlin** (3:19)
I was going to say white women between the age of 30 and 50 with children. Yeah.
Or just the entire world. But no, I'm just kidding.

**Mark Geragos** (3:29)
Not really the entire world, right? Don't let your white women privilege escape here, because we both know that white women cannot get past the bleach blonde massage therapist. Anyway, it's a discussion for a different day.

**Lauren Conlin** (3:50)
We could do another episode because I'm about to ring your neck, Geragos.
I am past Amber Frye, but we will do this another time and you know I'm serious. Okay, so just quickly, this is an incredibly heartbreaking case because I'm just going to say it. There's going to be two lives lost here, mark my words. So April 2nd, 2025, this is Collin County, Texas, a really safe community I'm reading about. There's a track meet on April 2nd and a lot of different schools attend this track meet. And there's something I'm learning through following this trial, especially through Cody Thomas of Court TV, who is in the courtroom doing incredible reporting on this, but something called tent communities, where schools will kind of treat these tents like a locker room. So Austin Metcalf-

**Mark Geragos** (4:38)
And when you say tents, the tents get set up in the bleachers for, when they have a track meet, for those who don't or haven't attended track meets, there are, it's generally, it's not one versus another all the time. You could have more than one school, multiple schools.
