Welcome to Reasonable Doubt, very special episode on Father's Day with my daughter, Teny Rose. How are you, Bamba?

**Teny Geragos** (1:37)
Well, dad, how are you?

**Mark Geragos** (1:38)
Very good. Thank you for giving me the best Father's Day present of all times, which is a couple of little munchkins.
Today, I'd love to talk about a case, and I'll tell you why this case drew my attention. It was because a viral moment was the client of the accused, meaning on video at the case. I don't remember, you probably would know, opening the statement, jury selection, whatever it was. He just started crying, and he was uncontrollable.

**Teny Geragos** (2:16)
I think we should start. We're talking about George Pino, who's a real estate developer in Florida. He's charged in Florida after he was driving a boat where his daughter and his wife and many of his daughter's friends were in the boat. And he had a channel marker, and one of his daughter's friends tragically, tragically passed away, and another was severely injured. And he is now, the trial started a couple of weeks ago.
One of my most respected colleagues, Howard Strudnick, who's everybody's favorite lawyer in Florida, we love him, is trying the case on the matter.

**Mark Geragos** (3:03)
And the partner of the late great Roy Black, who was I, I don't think you were there that year, but when we got inducted in the trial lawyers hall of fame after your grandfather was inducted into the criminal courts hall of shame, I introduced Roy and I by saying I had just finished inducting Teny's grandfather, but on the criminal courts hall of fame wall, you have to be dead first. And I said, Roy and I both appreciated being vertical at the time we were inducted. Unfortunately, Roy passed way too early, but what a career Roy had in his, and living up to it is Howard, obviously.

**Teny Geragos** (3:43)
Definitely. And so I think that's, I just wanted to start there. So when the trial started two or three weeks ago, or whenever it was, George Pino at the start was crying truly uncontrollably, and the judge stopped the proceedings, had the jury leave. But go ahead, I just wanted to give that background.

**Mark Geragos** (4:07)
Right. And once again, invoking your grandfather, Pops one time was telling a story about a trial of his, was not a male who was crying, but it was a female client. And he said, she started crying during the opening statement. She never stopped crying until the jury voted not guilty, said she was she was swept out in a flood of tears out of the courtroom. So it's what I tell these stories, but this has to be, I guess, the kind of a bittersweet day to talk about it, but the world is the world's worst nightmare for some. I mean, just for everybody involved.

**Teny Geragos** (4:51)
You know, he obviously cared for the 17 year old who passed away. They were very close family friends. But I think talking about what you were just saying, which was the emotion of the courtroom and the emotion.
It was very hard. And he, during one sidebar, I think, embraced family members or friends who were in the gallery and did that in front of the jury. And he was excoriated by the judge.
