Welcome to returning champ, Lauren Conlin. Lauren, how are you? You've been busy this week, haven't you?

Lauren Conlin (0:50)

I was going to say, Mark, I'm very tired, but I'm always happy to see you. It really is the highlight of my week. I got to see you again this week in person, which was great. You're a busy guy just for everyone.

The inside scoop here, you get a meeting with Mark. He's like, be right back. I'm like, okay. He literally was back in 10 minutes. There was a news van waiting for him outside of a restaurant so he could do a news hit. I mean, it's incredible. The guy gets so busy.

Mark Geragos (1:20)

Next time, I'm going to have that news outlet pick up the tab.

Lauren Conlin (1:25)

Wait, right?

Mark Geragos (1:27)

I work for food is my own version of that.

Lauren Conlin (1:30)

Well, it was so funny. You're like, be right back. That's the news van right there. I'm like, oh, okay. You were right back.

SPEAKER_2 (1:37)

I did.

Mark Geragos (1:38)

I came right back. I just did a hit. They were panicking.

SPEAKER_2 (1:41)

Well, Mark, we should talk about the hit.

Mark Geragos (1:43)

I did a hit, by the way, on a subject we're not going to talk about, although I would love to. The Christa Pike.

Lauren Conlin (1:51)

Oh, okay. I thought we were getting to the text message.

Mark Geragos (1:54)

We're going to get there in a sec. But the Christa Pike, kind of Lazarus coming back from the dead. I mean, three days ago, they were reporting that, and her lawyer, I think, was quoted as saying she's brain dead or they, they're not seeing any brain activity. Now she's up walking, talking, and eating, and there even those are more atorium on the on any capital executions in Tennessee. It looks like there is going to be some kind of an effort to try to kill her again.

Lauren Conlin (2:28)

Well, so far, I want to go back just for a minute. I know that's not our topic today, but I've been diving into Christa Pike a lot. And I want to just clarify, I spoke with her team between yesterday and today.

She is up and walking. They said she's taken several steps with some assistance. It doesn't sound like she's walking around, you know.

SPEAKER_5 (2:50)

Right, she's walking around.

Lauren Conlin (2:52)

Yes, and then I had heard a rumor that her arms might have to be amputated. So I reached out to her team and I actually got an email back and they're like, that's entirely untrue, Lauren. I was like, oh, okay, sorry.

That's why I wanted to ask. But in terms of her potentially having brain damage or neurological issues, they're kind of just saying that she has some memory fog, but nothing serious. And the hearing this past week, the defense got a big win because the Chancery Judge ordered the state to preserve all evidence. I mean, the Pento Barbadal, the Bent Needle, everything from that night. And so I think her team actually does have a really good case in getting her execution commuted to life in prison. I actually do. That's not, I'm not going to share my opinions on what I actually think. I'm sure you can figure it out now.

Mark Geragos (3:51)

I don't think anybody who knows you has to guess is the one you're actually...

Lauren Conlin (3:55)

I also, Mark, I don't condone someone. You know, we do have a constitution. And while what Christa Pike did to Colleen Slemmer is unspeakable, I can't even, it's too disturbing to get into details. I don't think it's right personally to torture someone back.

That's not, again, if it was my children or a family member, I might think differently. But at this point, it's, you know, there is a constitution. We should abide by that. But she was also sentenced to death. So it's a tough situation.
