The rate at which bond yields are rising, we've really never seen anything like it. Like, they're just, they're going crazy.
Ben Cahn (0:06)
And the yield curve.
Kyla Scanlon (0:07)
Yeah, it's flattened quite a bit.
Ben Cahn (0:08)
Can you explain to our audience why that is substantially wrong?
Kyla Scanlon (0:11)
So can I try out my explanation for the yield curve? Of course, please.
So you can kind of think of the yield curve like dating. Like dating? Like dating, yeah. So you can buy a three month bond, and that's kind of like a coffee date, right? So you're like, you don't need a lot of commitment, you're like, it's fine, whatever. But if you're gonna invest your money somewhere for 30 years, or you're gonna get married, right? You're gonna have this long term relationship. You're gonna want a higher return. You're gonna want a higher level of commitment. Right now, investors are doing a lot of coffee dates with the United States rather than wanting to get married. Come on, Marius. No, no, no, they don't want to marry because the US is not a stable partner. The US has some work to do in itself.
Emil DeRosa (0:46)
We're gonna change, babe.
Ben Cahn (0:46)
We're gonna change.
Kyla Scanlon (0:47)
No, yeah.
Ben Cahn (0:48)
Boy, hey, the US government is a very avoidant attachment style right now.
Kyla Scanlon (0:53)
Yeah, it's spending everything on credit cards, not saving, not thinking about a long term future. So why would you get married to the US government?
Emil DeRosa (1:01)
I know I showed up hungover to brunch with your parents, but in my defense, I forgot they were coming to town. Yeah, exactly.
Kyla Scanlon (1:06)
That's kind of how the US government's acting right now, hungover at a parental brunch. That's so embarrassing.
Emil DeRosa (1:13)
But I forgot they were coming to town.
Ben Cahn (1:40)
Hey everybody, we've got a veritable banger of an episode for you this week.
Emil DeRosa (1:45)
You may be asking yourself, why are they sitting at the same table?
Ben Cahn (1:47)
Well, that's because we can do a fun reveal, because back by popular demand, now more than ever, what we've needed in this country and on this show is the one and only Kyla Scanlon.
Emil DeRosa (2:01)
We can now change the days since someone commented, when's Kyla coming back to zero?
Ben Cahn (2:08)
Oh yeah, yeah.
Emil DeRosa (2:09)
And it'll last until Thursday when this comes out, because then they'll ask again. Or maybe they'll give us like a week before they start asking again.
Kyla Scanlon (2:18)
That's so sweet. They really do love you. Really?
Ben Cahn (2:21)
And they hate us. They can't stand us. And they wish we would just go away, but we're not going to. We're like bedbugs or cockroaches.
Emil DeRosa (2:29)
And we refuse to change the name to the Kyla Scanlon show. It's staying the Ben and Emil Show for now, no matter what people say.
Kyla Scanlon (2:34)
And we're not going to change the name until I merger and acquisition. Yes, please.
Emil DeRosa (2:39)
Are there going to be layoffs?
Ben Cahn (2:42)
Do I get to be Larry Ellison?
Emil DeRosa (2:43)
Yeah.
Ben Cahn (2:44)
Or who's the younger Ellison?
Kyla Scanlon (2:45)
David. David Ellison.
Ben Cahn (2:47)
My daddy loves me. My daddy bought me a company.
Emil DeRosa (2:50)
Can I be Megan Ellison and have a cool Indie company?
Kyla Scanlon (2:52)
Yeah. Annapurna, right? Yeah. Annapurna is okay. They do cool stuff. They do good work.
Ben Cahn (2:59)
Anyway, thank you for joining us. We've got a lot to get to because the vibes are bad and I don't want to bring... I know everybody...
You obviously coined the term vibe session, but I assume that you're probably a little sick of hearing about it.
Kyla Scanlon (3:14)
In four years, yeah.
Ben Cahn (3:15)
Yeah.
Emil DeRosa (3:15)
Are you sick of hearing about it?
Kyla Scanlon (3:17)
It's still very relevant.
Emil DeRosa (3:18)
Yeah.
Kyla Scanlon (3:19)
So, I mean, I think it makes sense to keep talking about it. Yeah. I think I just wish we had a solution for it. Yeah.
Ben Cahn (3:25)
I just mean, like, you're known for so much more than that. You are more than just that one. Not that that's all people ascribe to you, but you are now an author. You are a published author. Yeah.
List all your accolades, please. What are you currently doing?
Kyla Scanlon (3:41)
Yeah. So I work with CNN now.
I'm a contributor there. I write for the New York Times opinion section. I have my own sub stack. I'm a senior fellow at the Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator. I'm a fellow at AIBM, the American Institute for Boys and Men.
