AWS Autonomous Solution Slays Tech-Debt Monster!

Hello, my friends, welcome back to Cloud Wars Minute. As the AI revolution has kicked into full swing this year, we've heard a lot of stories, interesting ones, about companies blowing through their AI budgets because everybody loves this stuff, everybody wants to use it. That brings up this notion of technical debt, which was before, excuse me, right before the AI revolution, was a big topic, you know, how do companies stop spending so much on things that are already in place and then use, that have to be maintained so that they've got more money available to invest upward into the future. This notion of technical debt has kind of gone quiet for a while in all the rapture about the AI revolution. So it caught my eye the other day, AWS has introduced an autonomous tool that I think its primary job is to slay the technical debt monster that is grinding up so much of so many companies' IT budgets and limiting their abilities to do the things going forward that they need to do.
In fact, in the AWS announcement about this new solution they have, they said, engineering, fixing code, checking code, moving things around is not very high level work. They said it consumes 30% of IT budgets. And that's a staggering number, particularly today when everything businesses are doing involves IT. So these precious IT resources being squandered on some pretty low level stuff. So what's happening here is sooner than soon enough that these extravagance is like having to spend devote 30% of your IT budget toward fairly low level stuff that has no real business benefit to it.
This party that's been going on here now, the big AI kegger during the AI revolution here, that's going to come to an end, and what always follows those parties is a hangover. That hangover is going to be centered on technical debt, budgets, money, decisions that have to be made. And into that, I think AWS has come up with an interesting, if not terribly elegantly named solution. It's called AWS transform dash continuous modernization. And the continuous modernization, by the way, that's a small c, small m. Don't want to draw too much attention to this thing after all.
It's primary job, it autonomously monitors what's going on with code bases, prioritizes the fixes that have to be made, and then goes ahead and helps to upgrade all that.
AWS gave a list of some of the benefits of it, and clearly, I think these lists of benefits are aimed at technical management, which is fine in some way. But AWS then is missing a huge audience, which would be business people have to say, God, we're spending incredible amounts of money on IT. Why are we not getting as much sort of innovation oomph out of this as we should? It's because so much has to be spent to sustain this already in place technology that's there, the technical debt that builds on that. So this list of benefits that AWS has, they're all good, but I think they've got them flipped. The last benefit on the list was that this new solution cuts technical debt and makes data AI ready. To me, that is the absolute number one thing it does. And in a detailed article I've got later this morning on cloudwars.com, I put forth my list. I take the AWS benefits that they listed and put them in what I think is a more relevant order, a more relevant set of priorities for what's taking place in the business world today. So I want to really take my hat off to AWS for coming up with this. I think it needs a little work on the positioning and marketing and presentation of it, or else it's gonna go to a very limited market of people who might not be able to have as much of an impact on where this is taken. So I don't want to go too far off in that direction because it will expose my technical ignorance, I'm sure, even more so than I normally do. But the other element about this, I think AWS missed the chance of this. And again, my technical ignorance here is on full display. I think AWS has to find someone to package this as an agent. If they call this Agenic AI, it goes from being some sleepy thing with a ho-hum name to something that could be very cool. It's the technical debt killer agent, something like that. This is what it does. It autonomously operates, takes care of stuff, makes decisions, evaluates data, does all that. So anyway, pretty cool thing from AWS. Don't forget about technical debt.
