Well, greetings and salutations, everybody. Welcome to the Best Day Movie Related Show on the Planet Earth, The John Campea Show, coming from right here in my quaint little studio. I'm, of course, your host, John Campea. This is the show where we talk about the things that we love, movies and movie news, TV and streaming, all that good stuff. Joining us today, we are privileged to have 3C Films himself. Chris Parker is here. Chris, how are you doing?
Chris Parker (0:29)
Hey, doing really good. Excited to talk some movie news with you, John.
John Campea (0:33)
Of course, also joining us is our technical producer here, Jonathan Voico, probably living high on life after the Dodgers won their series last night.
Jonathan Voico (0:42)
I don't want to gloat, but I was told it was Braves All The Way. This morning, it just seems like they're all the way to Cancun is what Braves are all the way.
John Campea (0:52)
That actually isn't bad either.
Chris Parker (0:54)
No, it really isn't.
Jonathan Voico (0:56)
I take that too.
John Campea (0:58)
And most importantly, of course, though, guys, you guys are here. Thank you so much for being here and making our little show part of your day, and here's how the show's gonna go. We start off by talking about a bunch of really cool topics we got lined up for you guys today. Then in the second part of the show is when we take your comments and questions. If you have a thought, theory, opinion, question, or an issue you'd like me to address, as long as I deem it appropriate to be addressed on the show, there are two different ways you can get a question on the show. The first way is if you're watching the show live and only if you're watching the show live, you can use the super chat feature down there in the chat section and send in a question. Or if you're one of the many other people, the majority of the people who watch this show a little bit later in the day after we're done live streaming, you can also send in a question for the next show by using our tip link at streamelements.com/johncampea/tip.
You can send in your question there anytime, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As long as you get it into me by at least say, an hour before the show starts, you'll get your question answered on the show. If you get it in past that, we'll just answer it on the next day show. All right, guys. With that all down, let's get things kicked off here, shall we? And we're going to start off with this.
Well, Top Gun. I mean, I don't know if there's a more iconic thing. Like maybe you might confuse it with The Undertaker and that's okay. But that iconic gong, boom, ta-ta-ta, ta-ta-ta, boom. Like instantly, you're like, you're just waiting for that guitar riff to kick in.
It's lived with me my whole life, that piece of music. Well, anyway, of course, Top Gun Maverick came out a few years ago, came out a couple years late thanks to the pandemic, but came out it did and made nearly $1.5 billion at the box office with incredible success. And now we heard a while ago that they were going to be looking at doing a Top Gun 3, which of course they are, if you look at the success of the last one, but details have been pretty thin since, and we've heard a lot of Tom Cruise news about different projects he'd be working on and things he wants to do. Tom Cruise, who is now in his 60s, but we haven't heard a lot of news about Top Gun 3 Well, one of Tom Cruise's co-stars in Top Gun, Glen Powell, recently just came out and talked, did an interview where he talked a little bit about Top Gun, and we've got a little bit more light being shed on it. And this is what Glen Powell had to say about it. He said this. This is coming to us from the folks over at Geek Tyrant. Powell recently spoke with Esquire and was asked about where things stand with Top Gun 3 At first, he didn't give much away, saying, I probably know as much as you do. Eventually, Powell opened up in a little more and offered something for fans to chew on, saying, I know general brushstrokes of a story. I haven't read anything, though. He also talked about his conversation with Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced Top Gun Maverick, and is returning for the next film. Powell added, and this is the key part here, Tom's not going to do it unless he thinks it can beat Maverick. Hopefully, he says, I'm not the age of Maverick in Maverick by the time we make it. Hopefully, I'm not the age of Maverick by the time we make it. Now, this little piece of info compounds on what we got from the director of Top Gun Maverick. He also directed F1, Joseph Kaczynski, because he gave us a little while ago a little bit more information on the film talking about what it could actually be and how it's kind of going to be set up. This comes to us also from Geek Tyrant, who wrote, and this is Joseph Kaczynski speaking, it's an existential question that Maverick has to deal with that would make Maverick, the movie Maverick, feel small, I think, as a movie compared to what we're talking about. Now, they go on and commentate, that is a fascinating tease Top Gun Maverick already felt pretty massive in scope, but it was still rooted in Maverick's personal journey, his grief over Goose, his bond with Rooster, and his struggle to find where he fits in a changing military world. Now, look, I know there are going to be a lot of people, understandably so, that will want to ask the question, well, do we really need another Top Gun? To which you guys know what I'm going to say, there's never been a movie made in the history of mankind that is needed to be made. The question is, is it a good idea to make one? And well, it's hard to argue.
