My mom always taught me, someone's got to be great in the world, and if, why can't it be you? Why can't it be you? That's just such logic. It just makes so much sense to me. If someone's got to be the best at something, why can't it be you? As long as you work your ass off, and the discipline is a big thing for me. I mean, the discipline I learned as a musician, I've applied it throughout my entire life.

I've been practicing piano ever since I was three years old.

I know that same way that if I don't go to the gym in the morning, my body's not going to look the way it does.

If I don't put in the scales, I'm not going to be a great piano player.

Welcome back or welcome to the Finding Mastery podcast. I'm Michael Gervais, and by trade in training, a sport and performance psychologist, as well as the co-founder of Compete to Create. The whole idea behind this podcast, behind these conversations, is the opportunity to learn from people who are switched on, who flat out are investing their life efforts towards mastery of craft and self.

And what we want to do is dig to understand, like, what are they searching for? How do they organize their inner life? How do they make sense of the world around them?

And we also want to pull on that string to understand what are the mental skills that they use to build and refine their craft.

I want to take a minute here to announce a really exciting event that we have coming up. As you continue to navigate the challenges and opportunities of 2024, I want to pose a question. What are you doing right now to be great with stress? How are you working with stress on your pursuit towards your most important ambitions and goals? And I just want to get right to the heart of the key elements, one in particular, for what it takes to excel in today's high-heat, high-stakes world. Because stress is not the problem that we think it is. Stress is a synonym for change. And our ability to be agile with change, that is the real opportunity at hand. So if you're wanting to unlock extraordinary results and sustainable performance in your life, it's not about avoiding or reducing stress. And as simple as that sounds, it's very tricky to do, but it is about fundamentally changing your relationship with it.

And that's why I'm so thrilled to invite you to a special event. It's a free virtual event that we're offering, and it's called The Power of Embracing Stress. Now, this week's conversation is with Stephan Moccio, a producer, composer, recording artist, and musician behind some of the world's most massive inescapable global hits. For example, in 2013, Stephan co-penned the quintuple platinum song. Think about that. People celebrate being platinum gold, whatever. This is a quintuple platinum song wrecking ball with Miley Cyrus. Following that song's success, Stephan obviously quickly became one of the industry's most sought after and in demand producers and songwriters. He went on to co-write and co-produce two songs on the 50 Shades of Grey. The quintuple platinum earned it with The Weeknd and I Know You with Skylar Grey.
