Auburn vs Tennessee Post Game Press Conference
The Auburn Express
October 4, 2026
Auburn Football had its chances in Knoxville, but penalties, missed tackles and an inability to stop Tennessee’s rushing attack ultimately proved too much to overcome in a 24 to 14 loss at Neyland Stadium. Alex Golesh did not run away from responsibility afterward.

I give those guys credit. They obviously played better than we did.
And specifically in the second half. So a lot of credit to them. It was a real home field advantage. You know, offensively in the first half, we didn't didn't play well enough to go play winning football. And I thought defensively we did cause turnovers. But defensively then in the second half, it kind of flipped, couldn't stop the run. They got into 12 and we couldn't stop the run. Got going offensively. You know, the drive where we had them backed up and then we had the back to back personal fouls, we had not been a team that's so crazy penalty wise. Obviously offensively had a bunch of the starts. We didn't handle the crowd noise well enough in the first half. I felt like we had a good plan. We obviously didn't execute it, so therefore it was a bad plan. And that's my fault. But the starts, hard to get in rhythm, picked up some first downs, but just couldn't get in a real rhythm to be able to efficiently move it.
And then kind of flip the script in the second half, we give up the drive for the touchdown and then kind of played possession football and and then we we punted down. They're backed up and we had the two penalties that got the drive. It was for 30 yards, got the drive started and we just could never dig out of it. You know, the fourth and one, I felt like we were limited possessions there and we had to go get something done, put the defense in a tough spot.
But that was a decision I made with the thought of we need to go. I felt like we had momentum on offense that we need to go score. Story of the game, rushing defense, some missed tackles in there, some misfits, the lack of offense in the first half, and then the penalties. And you culminate all that and talk about the margins being really, really small.
And we didn't end up on the right side of those margins by any means. So that's the story of the game. Disappointing, obviously, game and conference. I think we had every opportunity to go be successful and obviously didn't. So questions? Jason Dowd, Peter.

The fourth downfall, I think most people would say, probably the right call, but the decision to pitch it outside away from the strength and kind of the thought process on the call itself.
Alex Golesh (3:19)
Yeah. We've got a couple of years of running it inside, running it off tackle the other way.

Bonjour, compadre. It's the Priceline Negotiator. How do I negotiate so many great travel deals? My greatest gadget, the Priceline app. It's got hotel deals, flight deals, rental car deals, all of those deals in a bundle, deals, game day deals, concert trip deals. No one deals more deals than Priceline.
Hold your horses, there's more. The app lets you filter hotels by neighborhood, vibe, star level and amenities like pools and spas and beach fronts and... Wait, I'm not done. Stop cutting the...

The thought is, the pictures they had shown that they would chase it off the backside edge. We thought we could go half for half with SIG and then put Cobb in space. It sucked a little bit being on the left hashler, being tucked up against the sideline, but that was the thought process there.
SPEAKER_9 (4:18)
I think seven of the families are inside the families. I guess from your point of view, how much of that do you think was the Cobb and the Lizvirs versus just taking general lead for the Lizvirs?
Alex Golesh (4:27)
Yeah, I would say all of those, all seven, we were on a silent cadence, and it was like pick your poison on who it was. We were on a silent cadence, and we just didn't execute it well. One was on the center, we had, I think, two on the right tackle.
