Welcome back to another great edition of Fourth and Four. I'm here with Kyle Rush from The Auburn Daily, I'm Mike G from The War Rapport. Kyle, great day to be out playing some golf and talking some football.
Kyle Rush (0:27)
Beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky.
Mike Gittens (0:29)
Not a single cloud in the sky. We're being hosted by Bull Creek in Columbus, Georgia.
Kyle Rush (0:35)
We'll change the scenery.
Mike Gittens (0:37)
We'll change the scenery from the AU club.
We'll change the scenery for Auburn Football this week. They are headed out to Athens after a trip to Neyland. Big news this week, no Xavier Atkins. You and I talked about this earlier this week, so Auburn will have to overcome a loss of talent there.
Kyle Rush (0:56)
No doubt about it. If it seemed insurmountable before, it's just that much more difficult. I mean, I think all of us love to watch Xavier play. I think he's a difference maker. I think he's probably arguably the best player on the team. If not, you know, top two or three.
But you know what? If you're gonna have a standard, and we've been preached to about a standard, you know, ever since Golesh was hired, you gotta, it doesn't matter what the name is on the back of the jersey, you know, you gotta be equal everywhere.
So, sucks, gotta make some adjustments, gonna see some young guys get some action. Bryce Diaz should be fun to watch this weekend. Trial by fire. Yeah, yeah.
Mike Gittens (1:37)
Durkin said that Bryce was the natural, he's the one who steps up in the absence of Xavier. Lots of talk about culture this week. The culture needs to be winning as far as I'm concerned. It's time to win some ballgames. I know this is probably a tough week to talk about finally getting on a winning track. But at some point, you just got to go out and flat out beat somebody better than you. We saw Bama and Georgia duking out last week.
Interesting to hear Bama fans complain about refs versus Georgia.
Kyle Rush (2:07)
You know what?
I don't feel bad. I don't feel bad either.
Mike Gittens (2:10)
Screw them. I think we're going to have some fun. I think Auburn is going to be competitive in this game. I'm not picking the Tigers to win.
Kyle Rush (2:18)
No.
Mike Gittens (2:18)
But I'm not sure, and I hate moral victories. But what are you looking for in this one from Auburn?
Kyle Rush (2:23)
I want to see more offensive production. I want to see Auburn look like they have a capable game plan, get off to a good start for the first time this season, and then it is what it is with the run defense and tackling. But you got to figure out ways to stop the run because they're going to run it. And if I were them, I'd run it 60 times on Saturday. So got to be able to try to contain the run and then have somewhat of a presence on the offensive side, like get off to a good start.
I was talking with Zach and probably talking with you about this too. And you know, Georgia's obviously not the most beatable team left on our schedule, but there are several teams that are. And what I don't, what I don't-
Mike Gittens (3:10)
Ole Miss looks mortal.
Kyle Rush (3:11)
Mortal, LSU looks mortal, clearly.
Again, there's some wins still out there. Today, this Saturday would be a pretty good stepping stone.
Mike Gittens (3:21)
Yeah, when you look around the SEC, there are a lot of teams in the middle of the pack stumbling harder than Auburn right now. It feels like Auburn is the worst of them, but they're not even close to the worst of them. And look, man, John Somerhalg, all that praise at Florida, they might not win a game for a month. Their next two games are Georgia and Texas after they just dropped the last to two. So Florida fans coming back down to earth.
Look, we're not looking to come back down to earth this week for this round. We finished even par at A-Club last week. But what do we got coming here? We're on the West Course at Bull Creek.
Kyle Rush (3:55)
Yeah, it's the first time I ever played this course. So this is gonna be a lot of new scenery. But it looks like we're starting off with a pretty good size par five, dogleg left.
Not much to it, just blast it and go. Yeah. Let's try to get a birdie. Let's start off with a birdie. Birdie?
