It's LSU up next for Alex Golesh and his squad, but can Auburn be crazy Kiffin and his Tigers?
Welcome on in to The Auburn Express Power by The War Rapport. I'm your host, Mike G. Turn us on, turn us up. Turn it out, I'm here with my good friend, Kyle Rush, from The Auburn Daily, talking a little Auburn football on today's show. Kyle, we're gonna get into that LSU-Auburn matchup. How do we expect this one to go? And if you're Auburn, how do you keep the momentum flowing from a massive win over Georgia? They did some things we haven't seen all season. You gotta do them again if you want it to count. But in the first part of the show, I wanna talk about Lane Kiffin specifically. I think this is a game that maybe Auburn fans want bad, and maybe even the athletic director wants bad based on how things went prior. Guys, don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel. Started at the top here. Lane Kiffin is the villain. He is the coaching villain of the SEC. I think everybody wants to earn a win over Lane Kiffin and his version of the Tigers. They had championship aspirations immediately when he got hired there. He went out and got Sam Leavitt, who is a playoff quarterback from a couple of years ago at Arizona State. And no one is questioning Kiffin's acumen when it comes to quarterbacks. This guy had Austin Simmons and Trinidad Chambliss on the same roster. Both those guys are starting SEC QBs. Currently, Sam Leavitt is, let me just put it this way. They have the number one offense in the SEC, over 500 yards per game. They do a lot of things well, but you know what else they do is they throw interceptions. Sam Leavitt, the MBS in interceptions is thrown if you're Auburn.
You've got to beat Lane, don't you? Beating Kirby and losing to Lane falls flat for me.
Kyle Rush (3:04)
I mean, I guess. I'm not going to ever downplay the historic nature of the win over Georgia. But yeah, I think this one's personal with Lane. Like you mentioned earlier, like you have the whole did Auburn try to hire him? Did he not? Did he turn us down? Do we turn him down? And, you know, all the things around that. He's always, you know, he was always, you know, trolling Hugh. And, you know, just kind of poking fun. I feel like at Auburn and he even, you know, kind of brought it up recently, I guess, in his Monday press conference again about how, quote unquote, Auburn tried to hire me. They're good. They're beatable.
The thing is, like we were talking about, I think you and I were talking about, if you could just keep it close with Georgia, it makes you feel a little bit more confident when you go into this game. I mean, you went in and beat Georgia in the way, in the way you beat them wasn't very fluky at all. It was just physically, you know, you know, pounding them on both sides of the line of scrimmage. So it's a different challenge.
Their defensive, their defensive front is really talented. I think they're the number one rush defense in the SCC. Number one, number two would probably flip a coin between them and Tennessee. So yeah, it's definitely going to be a tough one, but it would not, the Georgia win would not fall flat for me, like one percent. Yeah, I hear you.
Mike Gittins (4:30)
I hear you. I mean, when I say fall flat, I mean more in terms of momentum for your season, right? Because if you're Auburn, man, if you could stack wins, right, and keep the momentum going, at least for a couple of games, Georgia changed the trajectory of your season. When it gets LSU, completely transforms your season.
