Auburn Football Slow Starts Cannot Continue at Tennessee | TWT P9 | Auburn Football Podcast
The Auburn Express
September 30, 2026
Auburn football slow starts have become the thing I am watching closest as the Tigers get ready to go to Tennessee. Auburn has found ways to win football games, and I am not going to apologize for appreciating that.

Not a touchdown in a field goal, not 10 points, 14 points in a half. Because the way this defense has played over the last two or three years, one touchdown in a quarter would have been good enough to win almost every single game Auburn's played.
One touchdown in a quarter, 28 points. We're talking about, Hugh Freeze is still the coach. Yeah. You average 28 points in power for play offensively. Hugh Freeze is still the coach here. We're not even talking about Alex Golesh.
But they couldn't. This is one of the more baffling things that John Cohen and I have talked about when we sat down one on one.
It's been like, how could, I don't understand how, when you look at what he had done traditionally, you could come in so far below that bar. We cannot afford, John cannot afford, for Alex Golesh to follow the same script.
Ike Jones (3:39)
Yeah. I mean, this is essentially what Dustin is talking about his air. So if we end up stinging it up for the rest of the season, John Cohen is going to have to take his ass back to Mississippi, might not even be welcome back there after the improvement post his exodus.
B Wil (3:51)
Not a great relationship with John Cohen. I like him. I think he's a great businessman, but he's not going to survive the offensive coaches that he hires having bad offense. He's not going to survive. No AD would. Yeah. No AD would. So they've got to figure it out.
So I'm frustrated for fans, but I keep going back to what Golesh said, we want to celebrate the win, we do, but the win isn't going to hide the things that need to be fixed, because there is a gauntlet coming that you want, you're trying to survive. And right now, surviving it looks like one in three.
I have not moved off that, like just the fact that, the fact that Auburn did not clean the September slate, Ike does not change what my expectation for October reasonably would have been. I'm not requiring them to go three in a one now because they lost the game.
