There's only main character energy here. Now let's get into it.
Welcome to episode 823 As a creator, be careful being taught how to be someone else. As a creator, be careful being taught how to be someone else. I'm bringing this up because as you navigate the online world, or creating more visibility and you wanting to choose your own path, and bring your contributions to the world, and focus on your interests and your passions, and maybe breaking from how you're doing other things, but just your creativity overall, it's very easy online to get caught up in, here's the exact framework, here's what this person did and how they got big, here's what the exact path that you need to take. It's almost like repackaged from what I said that society does in the regular traditional path world of like, oh, this is what the success looks like, and this is how you should, what jobs you should have, et cetera, et cetera. It almost gets repackaged even in a creator sense in an online world where it's like, hey, this is how it has to be done. Now, I will say this, and we talk a lot about this in my community on Substack, that yes, there are ways to grow what you're doing very strategically, but from a place of diligence with your art, with what you're creating. Like it's taking, how do you communicate more effectively to the world, to the market, to the people that you're wanting to serve, which really is another version of you. It's basically what it really is. So, you know, and I think that, you know, I'm very fortunate that I came from a background of growth marketing and the internet and all of these things. But at the same time, I'm always very careful about giving advice that can't be flexible with what you're trying to do. And the reason I say that is because, and I brought this up several times, several times, because there's several creators that are really crushing online right now. I know some of you are probably like, I'm looking at how you're growing. But yeah, but I mean, there's some other people I want to reference.
And they all say the same thing. They're like, listen, you have to find the format that allows you to show up so fully and resonant.
And you have to really experiment with your craft to be able to do that. And so now it's not to say that I'm inspired by the delivery mechanism of showing people about how they communicate craft to the world. And you can look at the delivery mechanism, but you still gotta be you. The audience is looking for you. Now the irony is you get a lot of coaches and consultants and all kinds of people online saying like, this is how you have to do it. But audiences can feel whether it's you or not. They can. And so again, some tactics are great. I use certain tactics like how I write a certain way. Because honestly, if I just rambled, you'd be like, Matt, get to the point. You know what I mean? But that craft taught me a lot more. So in writing my book, I actually learned new levels. I'm going to tell you this right now. I learned new levels of my craft that right now I'm having so much fun with that. I haven't seen a particular style that before. And I was like, oh, wow, I found my own signature styles. You know what I'm saying? That comes from craft. That comes from depth. And so I think that that's the nuances that I want to talk about on today's episode, right? So let's talk about, here's a few different topics today. The dominant message most creators are being taught, I think, is here, go do it like this. You're basically being taught how to, well, this is what works for me. Now, again, if you're not careful, and cost you, you're not wanting to replicate anybody else's style, or aura, or essence, or who they are. You're, if anything, wanting to double down on your soul, and how you, you know, what you want to bring to the world. And then you can use tactics that you feel are helpful for making your art better, making what you want to communicate better. Secondly, I want to talk about is why I've chosen, what I've chosen instead of what's produced over time, right? What I've chosen instead of what it's produced over time. Because along the way, I've had a lot of people approach me, a lot of people and say like, oh, you should be doing this. You should be, you know, setting up your communities like this. You should be scaling like this. You should be all these things. That's difficult when you're a creator and you're building, like I know what the vision is. I actually know what the vision is.
