Anthropic, the maker of the Claude Artificial Intelligence Model, is targeting a valuation of up to $2 trillion for its initial public offering, selecting NASDAQ, with Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and Morgan Stanley leading the charge.

SPEAKER_3 (1:44)

Yeah, and just getting three investment banks of that size to jointly manage a syndicate, that indicates they are trying to organize an unprecedented volume of capital. You're looking at an alignment of institutional buyers, sovereign wealth funds, and retail brokerages that, well, you just rarely see that outside of sovereign debt issuances.

SPEAKER_4 (2:03)

Right. They chose NASDAQ, which obviously tracks with traditional high-growth tech listings. But attaching a $2 trillion number to this specific entity, it completely breaks conventional equity pricing models. The raw financial reality from the filings shows an attempt to orchestrate, pretty much, the most highly valued public market debut in the history of the equity markets.

SPEAKER_3 (2:26)

Well, the urgency in the filings is what stands out immediately to me, honestly. They're rushing to execute this listing before an upcoming major market holiday shutdown.

SPEAKER_4 (2:34)

Which is always a massive variable.

SPEAKER_3 (2:36)

Yeah, exactly. Wall Street operates on this very rigid psychological calendar, right? When traders and fund managers step away for holiday periods, liquidity just completely drains from the system.

Bankers despise trying to price an offering when the institutional buying desks are unstaffed, or running on skeleton crews.

SPEAKER_4 (2:54)

Because you need momentum.

SPEAKER_3 (2:56)

Right. You need momentum. When the market is running hot, you cannot give portfolio managers a week off to just sit on their couches, look at the economic data and reconsider their aggressive risk profiles. You have to build the book of orders and force the market to digest the equity before the holiday forces a pause.

SPEAKER_4 (3:12)

And an investment bank's primary job in this scenario is to guarantee the shares are sold. That means they're constantly gauging the temperature of the largest asset managers. If that temperature cools by even a fraction of a degree because of a long weekend, the entire valuation model slips. Yeah.

SPEAKER_3 (3:27)

Managing a syndicate of this size is basically an exercise in applied psychology as much as corporate finance.

The lead underwriters have to project absolute confidence. They have to signal that the order book is oversubscribed.

SPEAKER_4 (3:41)

Right. Like if you don't commit capital right now, you'll be left out of the largest wealth creation vehicle of the decade. Delaying the process disrupts that carefully engineered atmosphere of scarcity.

SPEAKER_3 (3:52)

Which leads us to the core problem the market has to solve today, really. How do we price an entity that is simultaneously posting the fastest revenue growth in tech history, recording tens of billions in losses, and openly warning that its own product could be a danger to humanity?

SPEAKER_4 (4:10)

We have mature frameworks for companies selling consumer goods. We even have speculative frameworks for companies with zero revenue promising future technology. But we lack any framework for a company generating billions in real commercial revenue, burning capital at a rate that would bankrupt a nation, and maintaining a legal stand.
