Amazon Drops The Altman Movie

This is Brian, and I'm with Andy today, and it is June 22nd, 2026 We got hopefully great next couple of episodes coming up for you here. We're excited about it all this week before we get into holiday and all the things that are going on in the States for the 4th of July, and also speaking of holidays for anybody that was celebrating Father's Day yesterday. I hope you guys had a wonderful Father's Day for all those fathers out there.
Mine was mostly busy helping my wife. She had her big graduation for her internship, her intern students, I should say, and so that just happened to be yesterday, so that's what was going on on my weekend was being the supportive husband and running around and grabbing things for her so she could do that and it all went off without a hitch, so that's always good. How are you, Andy?

I'm well, thanks. I had a really peak experience for Father's Day as they go. I can't remember Father's Days that, you know, sit out in my mind so clearly as yesterday, but that's because everything beyond is really foggy now in my memory.
Though, but I spent the day with my daughter and my grandson and just the three of us, and we just had a great day, and it was, you know, a combination of experiences and and treats and just was wonderful morning to night.

Alright, well, I know you and I both said we have a couple of things to get into just kind of kick off the week. There's always stuff that's going on over the weekend, developments, things like that.
I wanted to bring up a story that I actually just saw a bet just joined us as well. Welcome back, but I want to bring up a story I just saw that I think I knew about this, but it's like it kind of like was.
Like a million dollars, what a billion, who the hell knows what it is at this point? And so Amazon basically said, hey, we're not shelving it, we're not blocking anybody else from having it, but artificial needs to go find a new distributor, new studio to go out at. The way the variety article reads, whether this is true or not, is that Amazon is even actively helping this. It's just that Amazon does not want to put this out. So the title might hit a little bit bigger than what it seems. I am sure, I am sure with a story like this, it will have no problem finding a new studio or distributor for the film. From what I can understand, yes, by the way, that was 50 billion. I figured a million was way too low. I figured when I said million, I was like, there's no way. Can't be million. We're gonna talk billions on this show at this point. It's billion.
But I guess there had been some early views of it. And what I read was that I'm looking at here really quick, but it was talking about how Sam Altman and Elon Musk character coming away from the film, the early reviews of it would be the least liked or the audience would be the least sympathetic to their storyline or whatever it was within this movie. So for those reasons and reasons that Bezos and Altman might be friends, who knows or whatever, Amazon is stepping away from this, which let's be honest, does make sense. Whether that was something that was asked to them or they just decided that was good business. More importantly is that at this point at least, it doesn't appear that is being shelved. We've seen this with lots of movies. I wish Jyunmi was here for this story because I'm sure he can name a few, where whole movies have been absolutely shelved and then they're almost put in a vault in the sense like the Disney vault, but the vault in the sense of they're basically blocked from going anywhere else. It's a fully finished movie, kind of virtually sitting on a shelf somewhere, never to see the light of day or at least anytime soon. So I was happy to see that that does not appear to be the case, at least from what Variety is reporting, that it's just about it finding a new home and that the audience will get a chance to see artificial. Now, not that it's the same story by any means, but The Social Network was a huge movie, and although isn't maybe referenced all the time now about Mark Zuckerberg and stuff, it had a big impact at that time with how Mark Zuckerberg was seen, how Facebook was seen, and the movie did very well. So it's reasonable to believe that something like this, that there's enough audience, people who would be interested in what happened or what apparently happened during that period of time. And let's be honest, it can also have a negative impact, a further negative impact on OpenAI or how people perceive Sam Altman. We know for sure, I mean, Dario and others, but others have said it as well publicly, that reasons why they may have left OpenAI or had ousted him or whatever the case was, was because they felt that Sam Altman was not trustworthy. That's something that comes up a lot. It's a reoccurring theme. That's not me just saying that it's been out in the news and stuff that other people who have worked closely with him have felt that way that he was not trustworthy. And of course, that leads into those events. So pretty public figure. We don't hear as much from Sam Altman as we used to, at least on the show, we talked about a lot more because there's been so much going on with Anthropic, of which there's more news there as well over the weekend. But just something I wanted to bring up because I thought it was interesting. And I'm, for one, looking forward to seeing it whenever it gets distributed. It does not give a date on that, obviously, because of them finding the new home and stuff. But I would imagine this year.
