I was in town with a bunch of my college teammates, and we went for, you know, this was our third bar, maybe, that we had been to. A few Guinness had been consumed, and one of my friends decided that I needed a bodyguard. I go to the bathroom, he follows me to the bathroom. I walk out, and this guy comes up to me and says, hello, and I shake hands, and my friend pushes him away. And he says, sir, we're not doing, well, it was you. And I said, Joe, I think this one's gonna be okay. I think he's okay.

And follow the show on social media at Fitz & Whit. That's Fitz A&D Whit. New episodes every Wednesday. Whit, we have a very exciting one coming up today.

Andrew Whitworth (0:58)

We do, Fitz. We headed to the Big Boss' house to have a convo with the man himself. So please give a big Fitz & Whit welcome to Amazon president and CEO, Andy Jassy, baby. Yo, yo, yep.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (1:13)

Well, Andy, thank you so much. This is a huge honor for us to be able to sit down with you in your basement here. You've got quite the spot. And this is the second time we've been in here after Thursday Night Game. We're able to kind of walk around and look at all the memorabilia. And do we have a name for the place?

Andy Jassy (1:29)

It's called the Helmet Head.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (1:31)

The Helmet Head. Okay.

Andrew Whitworth (1:32)

It's named after me.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (1:33)

Yeah.

Okay. What's the genesis of Helmet Head?

Andy Jassy (1:39)

Well, there was a book that I read in college by Peter Golombach, who wrote The Bronx Zoo, but it was called Personal Files. It's about that. I think it's about that pretty disastrous North Carolina state season after they won the National Championship when Valvano was still the coach. And there was all sorts of turmoil and tumult on the team. Nobody really got along. And there was this player on the team named Quentin Jaxson who had this very large head. And I can't remember if it was Shackelford or Washburn, constantly made fun of him calling him Helmet Head. And it was a running joke in the book. And so I didn't really want to name the bar like Andy's Bar. I wanted it to be something sporty, but something that had some inside meaning. So Helmet Head.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (2:21)

It's like when we walk into every time we walk around cities for Thursday Night Football, we'll go to different places. And when we're in Texas, we go into the cowboy hat shops and they just shake their head when he walks in.

Andrew Whitworth (2:33)

Don't have any of the fit.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (2:34)

I don't think we're going to have one for you. Is it eight and a quarter?

Andrew Whitworth (2:39)

It's eight. I don't put quarters on there. When I look around this room, there's some pretty epic moments. Is there one of these sports moments that sticks out the most to you? I see Rangers, I see the Giants.

Andy Jassy (2:50)

There's so many for me. Well, I mean, Mark, that is a bottle cap picture of Mark Messier. The further away you stand from it, the more you can see it's him. The artist who makes it, roams around bars on Saturday nights at two in the morning and collects the bottle caps. I guess it's very hard to find the black bottle caps. I know. It's fun to hang out with that guy. He kind of puts the picture at a distance and creates it. But Mark, you know, I grew up a lifelong New York Ranger fan and I wasn't sure they were going to ever win the Stanley Cup in my dad's lifetime, let alone mine. But when they won in 94, that was one of my most favorite nights of my life. So I remember that very well. There are some pictures over there in that Giants Green Bay NFC Championship game and then the Giants Patriots. This is the 2007 season, 2008 playoffs. But that was an incredible magical run that I don't think anybody had on their bingo card. The Giants winning the Super Bowl that year. And that was the undefeated Patriots team.

The Giants, they were 14 and a half point favorites against Dallas in the Divisional Round. They were 10 and a half point favorites against Green Bay in the Conference Championship and two touchdown underdogs against the Patriots in the Super Bowl. So those are some of my favorite in here.
